Chapter 330:
Keeping my tone courteous, I answered, “Mr. Hughes, discussing work during office hours is more efficient. Once we’ve finished, I’d be happy to treat you to a meal. I’ll bring my assistants as well. It’ll make the atmosphere livelier.”
As the conversation shifted toward business, I carefully presented the Nexith Group’s proposed conditions one after another.
The moment we reached the sections involving profit allocation and strict compliance policies, Jason’s smile noticeably stiffened.
After several seconds of silence, he opened a drawer and pulled out a thick brown envelope. Slowly, he pushed it across the desk toward me.
“Ms. Riley, we’re all just trying to make a living. There’s really no need to be too strict. Let’s help each other out and stay on friendly terms.”
I glanced once at the bulging envelope and instantly understood. He was trying to bribe me.

This wasn’t my first time encountering something like this, but I had absolutely no interest in accepting the bribe. Calmly, I slid the envelope back toward him.
“Mr. Hughes, I believe you’ve misunderstood me. I only take money I’ve earned properly.”
The warmth vanished from Jason’s face the moment I rejected him.
Still, he didn’t continue pressing the matter. Instead, just as I prepared to leave, he once again suggested having a meal with me.
At that point, refusing too firmly would’ve seemed rude, so I immediately called Bella and Oscar over to join us.
Perhaps sensing my caution, Jason quickly smiled again. “Relax, Ms. Riley. I’m not trying to cross any lines. Besides, my supervisor will arrive shortly. It’ll be a good chance for everyone to get acquainted. That’ll benefit future cooperation, too.”
His expression looked harmless enough, yet the instant he mentioned his supervisor, an inexplicable uneasiness quietly spread through my chest.
Ethan’s POV:
Inside the presidential suite, only a lone standing lamp illuminated the vast living room, casting dim golden light across the space.
The Voss Group’s executive meeting was still ongoing through the laptop screen. Several shareholders were presenting the newest quarterly profit reports, their excitement impossible to hide.
I sat in the leather chair with one arm resting against the armrest, yet my attention repeatedly drifted toward the phone lying beside me.
“Alpha, the company’s growth this quarter has exceeded expectations. Several nearby packs have already expressed intentions to work with us. The Thorn Pack’s influence is expanding faster than ever before. At this rate, you’ll soon become the most powerful Alpha in the region.”
My subordinate sounded thrilled, but I merely responded with a calm nod, my expression remaining indifferent.
The most powerful Alpha?
A humorless smile tugged faintly at my lips.
Without a mate beside him, even the strongest Alpha was still just a lonely creature slowly losing himself to loneliness.
“Pause the Northern Obrinope expansion proposal for now,” I suddenly said, cutting through the discussion in a steady voice. “Send people to inspect the situation personally first. Unless we’re over seventy percent certain, nobody moves recklessly. That’s all for tonight.”
The moment I ended the meeting, Noah’s voice arrived through the mind link.
“Regarding the Nexith Group’s recent movements—”
“What’s the situation with the Queen District project?” I interjected before he could continue.
