Chapter 700:
I had been unprepared for the weight of his silence, and my heart instantly sank.
Then, in the very next moment, Ethan’s deep gaze met mine.
A trace of amusement flickered in his eyes before he said with complete certainty, “Other than Lianne, who else could it possibly be?”
The deliberate pause before his confession had clearly been intentional, just to make me flustered.
I shot him a glare, pretending to be annoyed, but I could still feel my heart stir at his answer.

Curiosity written all over her face, Tracy tried to press him for more details. Ethan, however, smoothly changed the subject by suggesting we begin the next round.
As the game continued, it almost seemed as though the bottle had a mind of its own, taking turns stopping at Jeremy and me.
As the night wore on, Jeremy, mindful of Tracy’s pregnancy, suggested playing one last round before ending the game.
This time, it was my turn to spin the bottle.
I flicked it with my fingers, sending the glass bottle spinning rapidly across the wooden board. It gradually lost speed with a soft scraping sound, then finally came to a stop, its neck pointing at Ethan once again.
“Come on, ask him something good! Lianne, don’t go easy on him!” Tracy urged excitedly from the side.
I looked at Ethan. Having no desire to embarrass him in front of everyone, I told him to choose whichever challenge he preferred.
“Whatever you want,” he replied, his eyes resting on me with heart-melting tenderness.
Lianne’s POV:
“Then… I’ll pick Dare.” I made my choice without much thought, then looked Ethan straight in the eyes. “I don’t need you to do anything for me right now,” I said sincerely. “Instead, save this dare for me. Someday in the future, I want you to promise me one thing, no matter what it is.”
At the time, I only wanted to leave myself a way out. Maybe I’d need his help with my father’s case one day, or perhaps I’d need it to bridge the impossible distance that still separated us.
But the instant those words left my mouth, Ethan’s expression changed.
The easy confidence vanished from his face, replaced by unmistakable tension. He stared at me, and when he finally spoke, his usually unwavering voice carried a vulnerability I’d rarely heard.
“Lianne,” he asked quietly, “are you saving that promise so that one day you can ask me to let you go?”
Seeing someone as proud and seemingly invincible as Ethan reveal such uncertainty made my chest tighten painfully, as though a knife had pierced my heart.
“No.” The answer escaped me without hesitation. I reached out and hooked my little finger around his. “I’ve never wanted to leave you.”
His gaze dropped to our intertwined pinkies. The darkness clouding his eyes gradually faded, and after a brief silence, he nodded. “Alright,” he said softly. “I promise.”
