Chapter 257:
“You’re the one who pushed him into his grave!” Nancy drank in the sight of my bloodless face and began laying it out bit by bit, each word edged and deliberate. “Not long before Harold died, Ivy called him. He feared that once he was no longer here, Ethan would throw you aside, so he tried to force Ivy out of the Thorn Pack. But Ivy told him that the moment he died, Ethan would sever the mate bond with you and make her the Luna of the Thorn Pack. Harold was so consumed by anger that he could barely breathe, and that was the end for him.”
For one brief moment, I lost the ability to think.
“What kind of rubbish are you talking about? This is a lie! Ethan told me Harold died because an old illness flared up…” I kept shaking my head, my voice trembling.
“Ethan lied to you, you idiot.” Nancy let out a scornful laugh, her eyes full of mockery and contempt. “He did it to shield Ivy and keep you from falling apart for the sake of the baby you’re carrying. Ethan was forced to marry a woman he never loved because of you. Harold went to his grave with regrets because of you. Every disaster started with your existence. If that doesn’t make you a curse, what does?”

I stood there without moving, cold spreading through my body until everything felt numb.
So Harold’s death really had something to do with Ivy. And Ethan had kept it from me the entire time.
Lianne’s POV
Before the servant returned carrying a blanket and a thermos, Nancy had already left.
She walked away quickly, her whole bearing full of the triumph of someone who had finally settled a score.
I knew she had gone off pleased, because the devastation on my face must have told her that her cruel purpose had been fulfilled.
I curled my hands into tight fists, my nails biting so deeply into my skin that they nearly drew blood.
But I could not feel any pain at all, not even the slightest trace of it.
My head was in utter chaos. Every sentence Nancy had uttered felt like a poisoned barb, raking across my nerves again and again.
“Ma’am? Why are you sitting here so absent-mindedly? You’re still not well, and it’s cold outside. Please wrap yourself in this blanket so you can stay warm.”
The servant called for me twice before I finally blinked and slowly returned to myself.
I inhaled deeply, trying to press down the storm raging inside my chest. “Take me inside.”
Once Nancy told me the truth, it felt as though all the strength in my body had vanished, leaving me weak to the core.
I had to go back and pull myself together.
The servant saw how bloodless my face was and how empty my eyes looked, and though she seemed to realize that something was terribly wrong and almost asked about it, she held back in the end and quietly helped me inside.
After we entered the villa, the servant tried to take me upstairs so I could rest, but I refused without hesitation.
I sat down on the broad but icy leather couch in the living room, still as a lifeless figure.
“I’m waiting for Ethan to come home,” I said softly.
I needed answers. I needed Ethan to tell me himself whether Harold’s death had really been caused by Ivy’s provocation.
