Chapter 890:
Panic coursed through me. I dropped every bit of pride I had left and pleaded, “Ethan, please, give me another chance. I’ll apologize. I’ll compromise. I’ll do whatever you want… I don’t want to lose you.”
For a brief moment, something shifted in his eyes, but that flicker was immediately swallowed by his cold indifference.
His voice was calm and devoid of emotion. “When you made up your mind to leave me before, did you ever stop to consider giving me another chance? Now it’s my turn to take a step back and reconsider our relationship.”
I froze.
He lowered his eyes and said harshly, “Tonight is the last night I’ll stay here. Until I’ve figured everything out, I won’t come back. And don’t try to use the children to keep me tied to you anymore.”
The moment he said this, he turned toward the door.
I was frozen in place. As I watched his figure move farther and farther away, my mind went completely blank. It was only when his hand reached the doorknob that I finally came to my senses. I hurried after him and caught the edge of his coat.
“Ethan!”

He didn’t even look back.
With a soft motion, he slipped free of my grasp, opened the door, and walked out.
Ethan was really gone.
I had thought the small moment of warmth between us last night might slowly repair what had been broken. Never had I imagined that instead, everything would collapse even further.
I sank onto the living room couch and stared blankly at the gray sky beyond the window. My thoughts were an utter mess.
Regret gnawed at me. If I hadn’t stubbornly insisted on staying with him in the guest room last night, would I have avoided hearing those cruel words? Would he still have decided to pull away from me completely?
But I couldn’t turn back the hands of time.
After Ruby and Silas went to school, the enormous villa became desolate. I was left alone inside. The silence was suffocating. Even the ticking of the clock on the wall sounded deafening in the stillness.
Ethan’s cold words kept replaying in my head, stirring a deep and growing sense of dread within me.
He had said he didn’t want anything to do with me anymore. He was exhausted and couldn’t keep going. He had even warned me not to use the children as an excuse to hold on to him. This time, Ethan was truly leaving me.
I closed my eyes and pressed my fingers against my temples, desperately trying to shut out his words. But they remained lodged in my mind like splinters buried too deep to pull out.
My phone suddenly rang.
I picked it up and glanced at the screen. Tracy was calling. After taking a deep breath, I answered and forced myself to sound as normal as possible. “Hello?”
Tracy got straight to the point. “Lianne, Frank and Jane have broken up.”
I was quiet for a moment before giving a half-hearted response. “Oh.”
