Chapter 971:
I adopted a hurt and furious tone. “What did you do? You must have tricked him somehow. You used some underhanded method to make him agree!”
“Tricked him?” she replied with a mocking scoff. “I just understand what he really wants better than you do.”
I took a deep breath. Then I delivered the warning Ethan and I had prepared, making sure to sound genuinely worried for her. “Don’t get too excited just yet. Do you really think Ethan is the perfect gentleman you imagine him to be? Let me tell you something. He has plenty of private quirks… Certain wild tastes are far more extreme than you could ever think of. You may not be able to handle them. I’m warning you, think carefully and walk away while you still have the chance.”
I had expected her to hesitate at least a little. But she didn’t fall for it. Instead, she chuckled and said with anticipation, “Really? Even better. I would like to find out for myself. A little excitement between a couple is totally normal, isn’t it?”
I fell silent for a moment before pretending to give up. “Fine. If that’s what you think, then I have nothing else to say. Do whatever you want.”
After ending the call, I placed my phone aside. I couldn’t help replaying the ridiculous story I had just made up in my head. Quirks? Wild tastes? Where had I even gotten those ridiculous ideas?
Before I knew it, my mind had started running in wild directions, and my cheeks began to flush. I quickly pushed those thoughts aside and focused on work instead. I went through the studio’s renovation plans with the designer, discussing every detail and making the final decisions about the layout.
A few hours slipped by before I noticed the sky had started to darken.

After seeing the designer off, I collected my stuff and prepared to leave. Just then, my phone vibrated. It was a message from Ethan. “You’re not home yet, right?”
I answered casually, “Almost.”
He replied almost instantly, “You haven’t even left yet, have you?”
I stared at the screen for a moment. He got me.
I replied honestly, “I’m just about to go downstairs.”
“Okay.” That was all he sent next.
I slipped my phone into my pocket and headed toward the stairs. But when I reached the end of the hallway, I suddenly stopped.
The office door was open. I clearly remembered locking it after the designer left. But now, it stood slightly ajar.
My heart immediately jumped. Had someone broken in?
I stood outside the doorway. My heart beat fast as I hesitated for a while. Finally, I gathered my courage and pushed the door open.
The moment I stepped inside, I froze.
Ethan stood silently in the middle of the empty room, wearing a black suit. The last rays of sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing him in a soft golden glow.
At the sound of the door, he turned around. A gentle warmth appeared in his eyes as his gaze settled on me.
“Surprised?” he asked softly.
