Chapter 495:
The instant I heard Lianne’s name, something inside me softened. All the emotions stretched taut inside me seemed to unravel at once.
I wasn’t afraid of dying. I wasn’t afraid of pain. I wasn’t even afraid of the Thorn Pack collapsing.
But I was terrified of Lianne seeing me like this.
She had already suffered enough. If she discovered I had hurt myself because of her, she would only blame herself even more. She would cry.
The mental image of her teary eyes extinguished every trace of anger within me.
“Don’t call her…” I slumped weakly against the headboard, my voice barely above a whisper, carrying an unmistakable note of pleading. “Don’t let her find out. I’ll cooperate.”
I stopped resisting and allowed Melisa and the nurses to treat me.
Beside me, Rola trembled with fury, her manicured fingers gripping her clutch so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

“Ethan! Just look at what you’ve become!” Her shrill voice cut through the hospital room’s silence, scraping harshly against the heavy tension. “You are the Alpha of the Thorn Pack! And here you are, tearing yourself apart like a madman over a woman.”
I slowly lifted my eyes to her. The coldness in them was sharp enough to cut.
I gave a bitter laugh, the movement pulling at the wound on my chest and sending a sharp pang through me. “Grandma, when Lianne endured all your relentless abuse and humiliation in Thiynia just for a chance to see me, did it ever cross your mind that she’s the mother of my children? When she dragged her crippled leg and knelt meekly before the elders, pleading for the right to meet me, did any of you pause to consider that my children also share her blood?”
I locked my eyes on hers, my voice measured and sharp. “You never showed her even a trace of mercy. So what right do you have to stand here now and condemn me for putting my life on the line for her?”
Rola’s expression shifted continuously, cycling from pale to flushed. She stubbornly stiffened her back, refusing to yield. “That’s because she doesn’t deserve it! Ethan, wake up! She’s no longer your Luna. From the moment she walked away, she lost any right to be at your side.”
Rola’s words were like a blunt knife, slowly scraping through the most tender spot in my chest, ripping me apart from the inside.
I let out a bitter laugh. Even now, weak as I was and barely able to raise my hand, the defiance in my eyes didn’t waver one bit. “Then I’ll win her back as my mate. As long as I’m still breathing, the position of the Thorn Pack’s Luna belongs to her and her alone. No one else will ever take it.”
“You!” Rola jabbed a finger in my direction, her chest rising and falling with rage, clearly driven past her breaking point by my stubbornness.
The tension in the room was stretched to its limit, as if the smallest spark could set off an explosion.
