Chapter 215:
By the time we arrived home, Ethan dropped the car keys into the tray by the entrance with casual force. He seemed to sense the strain in the air, then crossed to the bar and poured each of us a glass of water.
“Tell me. What is it?” He held one out to me.
I made no move to take it and only looked at him in silence.
After a brief pause, I finally said in a quiet voice, “Ethan, let’s end this.”
He went completely still, the motion of raising his glass stopping halfway.
After what felt like a long silence, he lowered it again, but the glass tipped, and water spilled over his hand, soaking the cuff of his expensive shirt. He seemed not to notice at all.
He looked at me as though he couldn’t believe what he had heard, then said at last, “What did you just say? Say it again.”
“I said, let’s sever our mate bond.” I repeated it. I had already said far too much over these past few days.
“It’s my fault that your grandfather ended up in the hospital.” I lowered my gaze and fell silent for a moment before continuing, “After this is over, let’s hide it from him for the time being. As long as possible, at least until he’s recovered.”
“Why?” Ethan crossed the space between us in a few strides, his expression cold enough to chill the room. “Why today? Why are you so set on ending this now?”

“We were going to end it sooner or later anyway, weren’t we?” A bitter laugh slipped from me. “I already signed the Rejection, and you’ve wanted Ivy as your mate for a long time. There’s no reason to keep dragging this on. Rola isn’t against it either.”
“Is this because of what’s been happening lately? Because of Ivy?” He reached for me as he spoke, trying to pull me into him, desperation breaking through his voice. “Lianne, I can explain everything. Ivy is just—”
“No.” I cut him off and looked straight into his eyes, then said each word with deliberate clarity. “If you need a reason, then here it is. I don’t love you anymore. Ethan, I don’t want you anymore.”
The words landed on him with brutal force.
For an Alpha, there was no humiliation greater than hearing his own fated mate say she no longer loved him.
“You don’t love me anymore?” Ethan let out a cold, disbelieving laugh. “Is this because of Frank? Because he came back, you can’t wait to throw me aside and go running to him?”
Before I could say a single word, he suddenly lunged forward, seized my shoulders, and forced me down against the couch.
I gasped as my back hit the cushions.
He loomed over me, his body caging mine in, one hand clamping both my wrists above my head.
“So you care about him that much?” He bent close, his breath hot against my skin, his voice fraying at the edges with something dangerously close to madness. “When he touches you, does your heart pound like this too?”
“Let me go, Ethan. You’ve lost your mind!” I fought against him with all my strength, but he didn’t budge.
