Chapter 684:
“Ethan… he would kiss me,” she murmured softly, her warm breath grazing my lip, drawing me in. “Just one kiss… then I can confirm whether you’re Ethan. And I’ll drink the milk, I promise.”
Her words made me frown.
A fierce wave of anger rose inside me.
If someone else had brought her home tonight, if another man had claimed to be me, would she have tried to verify his identity the same way?
Without thinking, I reached out and cupped the back of her head, holding her still. My voice turned low and firm. “Lianne, listen carefully. From now on, no matter who’s taking care of you, and no matter how much they look like me, you are never allowed to use something like a kiss to figure out who they are. Do you understand?”
My serious tone seemed to cut through some of her drunken confusion.
She furrowed her brows with obvious displeasure, grumbling that I was being too noisy. Then her body went limp as she slumped into my arms.
I drew a slow breath, forcing the storm of emotions inside me back under control. Wrapping an arm around her, I held her close.
I spoke gently, as if comforting a restless child, and finally coaxed her into drinking the warm milk and taking her hangover medicine.
As she swallowed, she seemed to regain a small sense of familiarity.

Then, emboldened by the lingering effects of the alcohol, she suddenly rolled over and pushed me onto the bed beneath her.
Just like the days we had spent together in Thiynia, she buried her face in my neck, searching for comfort. The silky strands of her hair brushed lightly across my skin, sending a faint shiver through my body.
This was probably the moment she finally believed the man beside her, carrying the familiar warmth and scent she knew so well, was truly me.
After setting the empty glass on the bedside table, I turned back only to find her awkwardly tugging at the collar of her clothes.
Her eyes were still hazy as her unsteady fingers fumbled with the buttons. In a soft, pleading voice, she murmured, “Ethan… help me… it feels uncomfortable…”
We had been apart far too long. Long enough for me to almost forget how effortlessly she could make me lose my self-control.
I was already using every ounce of restraint I had. Her complete lack of caution only made things worse. My voice came out rough and strained.
“Stop, Lianne.” I tried to sit up, hoping to put some distance between us.
But she grabbed the front of my shirt and refused to let go. Her eyes quickly filled with tears as she looked at me, hurt. Her trembling voice sounded aggrieved. “You… you don’t love me anymore… do you?”
Before I had the chance to answer, she suddenly reached toward me.
My body went rigid. I instinctively caught her wrist, stopping her hand before it could move any farther.
“Lianne, look at me.” I forced the words through clenched teeth. “See clearly who I am, and don’t do something you’ll regret.”
