Chapter 426:
Then he turned to me, his eyes locking onto mine with unsettling intensity. “Silas likes fish, especially grilled fish. What about you? Is there anything you particularly want to eat?”
His stare left me flustered. My cheeks flushed, and I quickly looked away. “I don’t care. Anything is fine.”
I just wanted the evening to end as soon as possible so I could finally be free of this situation.
At that moment, my phone began ringing inside my bag. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was Frank.
He was probably worried and calling to make sure I was okay.

I answered, but before I could speak, Frank’s anxious voice came through the phone. “Lianne, are you alright? Did he do anything to you? If you can’t talk openly, just hang up. I’ll call the police immediately.”
“I’m okay, Frank,” I replied softly, trying to calm him. “I’m dealing with some work matters right now. I’ll head back later. Get some sleep and stop worrying about me.”
I didn’t dare continue the conversation. The more I said, the greater the chance Ethan would overhear. After a few brief words, I ended the call.
But the moment I lowered my phone and looked up, I realized Ethan had somehow moved to my side without me noticing.
Before I could slip my phone back into my pocket, his large, warm palm closed around my hand.
Some nearby shoppers were already staring at us. It wasn’t surprising. A breathtakingly handsome man and an equally attractive woman standing hand in hand in the middle of a supermarket naturally drew attention.
“What are you doing? Let go!” I said under my breath as I tried to pull away.
Ethan ignored my protest. He tightened his grip and brushed his thumb lightly across the back of my hand.
“You said it was only dinner. Then what exactly are you doing now?” I was enraged as I struggled to free myself.
“The store is crowded.” His expression remained completely serious. “I’m worried you’ll wander off.”
“I’m not three years old, Ethan. Don’t take advantage of the situation.”
But no matter how hard I tried to free myself, it was useless.
His Alpha strength was overwhelming, and my efforts only seemed to make him hold on more firmly.
Suddenly, he stopped walking. He lowered his gaze and locked his eyes onto mine. Something unreadable flickered through them, and when he spoke again, his voice was much softer.
“Stop fighting me.” There was a trace of tenderness in his words. “Your hand is cold, Lianne.”
I froze and immediately stopped struggling.
Ethan placed my hands between his and began to breathe warm air onto my cold fingers. Then he enclosed them in his warm palms.
“You really haven’t been taking care of yourself these past few years, have you?” He looked clearly concerned. “Was there nobody overseas looking after you?”
I felt a strange ache in my chest.
For a brief moment, I forgot to pull away. I just stood there, staring at him.
