Chapter 159
[ 520 words ]
Chapter 159:
“I’m staying. What are you going to do about it?” I raised a brow, my voice calm. “Disgusting? Ivy, you’ve tried so hard to take my place, but unless I agree, you’ll always be the woman kept in the shadows. No matter how much Ethan favors you, the law and the pack still recognize me as the Luna.”
Lianne’s POV:
“So you think I can’t lay a hand on you?”
My reply left Ivy speechless, and tears instantly filled her eyes, her usual tactic.
Out of nowhere, she threw herself at me and gripped my wrist so hard it hurt. “Lianne, let’s make a bet. Let’s see whether Ethan will tear you apart after he watches you hurt me!”
It was laughable. She really intended to use such a low, obvious ploy.
“I’m not interested in your childish game.” I shook her off with icy indifference, my eyes full of contempt. “Ivy, you make me sick.”
With that, I turned away, unwilling to waste another moment on her.

I had only gone two steps when hurried footsteps suddenly came from behind me.
My instincts blared a warning. I felt something slicing through the air at my back.
Ivy was actually charging at me from behind.
By reflex, I planted myself firmly. My body moved ahead of my thoughts and slipped aside.
“Ah!”
Ivy had been trying to push me, but she used too much force and lost her balance.
Dragged down by gravity, she gave a piercing scream as she tumbled down the long marble staircase.
The gruesome sound of a heavy body smashing against the steps reverberated through the quiet corridor, shockingly loud.
I stood still for an instant, then smiled.
That shameless home-wrecker had it coming.
At that moment, the emergency exit door burst open with a loud crash.
Ethan stepped inside.
He must have heard the scream and come running.
The second he saw Ivy curled up at the bottom of the stairs, his face turned white.
He rushed down the stairs at astonishing speed and gathered the blood-covered Ivy into his arms.
“Ethan, it hurts so much.” Ivy leaned against his chest, her face white as paper, big tears hanging from her lashes. “Lianne did it. She pushed me. She wants me dead.”
Ethan’s whole body stiffened.
He slowly raised his head and looked up at me from the stairs.
For a brief moment, everything seemed frozen.
I stood on the steps, looking down at him from above.
I thought he would ask what had happened. I thought he would have even the slightest doubt. But he didn’t.
There was no question in his eyes, only the assumption that I was to blame.
“Stop talking. I’m taking you to the hospital.” Ethan looked away, his voice sinking to a frighteningly low tone.
Just as he turned, I clearly saw Ivy, draped over Ethan’s shoulder, slowly open her eyes.
She gave me a smug, victorious smile. The eyes that had been full of tears were now overflowing with vicious triumph. Her lips moved soundlessly. “I won. Again.”
It felt as if an invisible hand were squeezing my heart, and a bitter pain rose into my throat with the metallic taste of blood.
But I didn’t cry, and I didn’t run after him to explain.
