Chapter 813:
I had always assumed someone with his status would eventually end up beside a woman who matched him in every way. But after giving him my heart, the thought of losing him hurt far more than any poison ever could.
His face turned solemn at once, carrying an authority that filled the room.
His fingers gently caught my chin, making me look directly at him.
Every sentence came slowly, his deep voice carrying unwavering conviction. “Lianne, remember this. You matter more to me than I do myself. As long as I’m alive, nothing will ever separate me from you.”
The heaviness weighing on my heart dissolved with those words, replaced by a warmth so sweet it almost overwhelmed me.
I leaned forward and brushed a kiss across his cheek, savoring the heat of his skin.
After hearing his promise, the future no longer frightened me. Whatever hardships waited ahead, I believed he would remain beside me until the very end.
The morning Tracy was cleared to leave the hospital, brilliant sunshine poured through the sky.
By the time Ruby, Silas, and I reached her room, it had already filled with beautifully wrapped gifts for her baby.

Ruby and Silas crowded around the bassinet, peering inside with wide eyes, completely captivated by the tiny, wrinkled newborn.
Ruby cautiously stretched out one finger, stopping just short of touching the baby. “Mommy, she’s so gentle. She looks like a fluffy little marshmallow.”
“Gentle?” Tracy laughed from where she rested against the raised hospital bed. Her complexion was still pale, but the tenderness in her eyes reflected every bit of a new mother’s joy. “You should hear her at night. She’s been keeping me awake for days.”
As she spoke, she bumped my shoulder lightly before lowering her voice with a teasing grin. “Lianne, your kids are already crazy about her. Why don’t you and Ethan have another baby? It’s about time he learned what late-night diaper duty feels like, instead of pretending he’s always got everything figured out.”
Heat rushed to my face. Without thinking, I glanced toward Ruby and Silas, afraid they might believe another child would mean there was less love for them.
Instead, Silas spoke with complete seriousness. “Mommy, if we have a baby that little, Ruby and I will help look after her.”
Tracy burst into laughter. “There you have it. Even your children are on board. Ethan would probably be thrilled too. If he had his way, he’d have several more kids with you. The decision is yours.”
“We can think about it later.” I rubbed my fingers together nervously, my heartbeat speeding up.
Desperate to escape the conversation, I quickly steered it elsewhere.
Reading my embarrassment perfectly, Tracy let the subject drop. “Actually, it’s better to wait anyway. Once Melisa finishes helping you recover, then you can think about another pregnancy. Until then, it would be too risky. Ethan would lose his mind if something happened to you.”
The instant Melisa’s name came up, my chest tightened. Ethan’s strange behavior over the past few days immediately resurfaced in my thoughts.
I leaned closer. “Tracy, have you heard anything? Did Ethan and Melisa get into some kind of conflict?”
