Chapter 770:
His gaze rested on me, filled with emotions too complicated to put into words. “There’s something else you need to know. The moment you dropped the appeal, Ethan filed a lawsuit in your name. He called in every favor he could within the pack and demanded your father’s case be reopened.”
I stood there in stunned silence, my mind completely blank.
I had dropped the appeal because I understood just how powerful Rola was. I couldn’t bear the thought of Ethan being forced to choose between his family and me.
Deep down, in the darkest part of my heart, I had even considered giving my life in exchange for Rola’s. If I did, Ethan would no longer have to carry the weight of standing against his family or betraying his own blood.
But Ethan had ignored all of that. Even surrounded by pressure from his family, he had still chosen to fight for my father, determined to get him justice.
“Do you really not see how much he loves you, or are you just too scared to accept it?” Jeremy asked, unrelenting. “When Ethan was in the hospital receiving treatment, he didn’t ask about himself. His only concern was whether someone was looking after you. He was terrified you’d do something reckless.”
At that moment, the wall around my heart crumbled.
I couldn’t find the courage to stand before the man who had sacrificed everything for me. I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing his pale face, or the depth of emotion that would surely fill it.
“Jeremy… please.” I clutched his sleeve as tears streamed down my face. “Take me somewhere to buy alcohol. Right now… I can’t face Ethan.”
The only thing I wanted was to drown myself in alcohol, to hide inside the haze where my fear and guilt couldn’t reach me.
After finishing five bottles of beer, my stomach twisted painfully and heat rushed to my flushed face. But no matter how much I drank, my thoughts stayed painfully clear.

I was nothing but a coward, too afraid to face Ethan.
If he hadn’t come back to see me, he would be in Nshire now, not lying in a cold hospital bed with silver poison eating away at the wound in his chest.
I wanted to see him more than anything, but reason kept warning me to stay away. Only by leaving him alone could he return to being the powerful Alpha he was meant to be.
My wolf, however, refused to accept that.
“Lianne, I want to see Ethan! Go to him now!” Anna cried in agony in my mind.
Anna could feel Ethan’s uneven breathing. She knew that, more than anything else, what he needed right now was for me to be by his side.
Whenever an Alpha suffered life-threatening injuries, every instinct within him drove him to seek the comfort of his mate.
Even though our mate bond was fractured, our souls were still connected. Through it, I could faintly hear Ethan calling my name.
Eventually, I gave in. I gripped Jeremy’s sleeve with trembling hands, my voice shaking as I pleaded, “Take me to the hospital. Please… take me to him.”
Lianne’s POV
The pack hospital was wrapped in deep, eerie silence.
