Chapter 649:
“It will,” Tim replied calmly as he handed me a warm cup of herbal tea. His confidence never wavered. “The Pack Council exists to ensure justice for every member of the pack. The Moon Goddess would never allow a crime like this to go unanswered. As long as our evidence is strong enough, they will reach a fair judgment.”
Just before our meeting ended, Tim looked at me seriously. “As your lawyer, I have to ask you one last time. If you decide to settle now, the Voss family’s wealth is more than enough to provide compensation that would let you live comfortably for the rest of your life. Are you absolutely sure you don’t want to think it over again?”
I gently shook my head without the slightest hesitation. “There isn’t a sum of money in this world that could make me forgive the people who took my father from me. I’m not looking for a settlement. I want justice.”
Tim let out a quiet sigh. A hint of respect flashed across his eyes, and he said nothing further.
After leaving the law firm, I collapsed into the driver’s seat, completely sapped.
Just then, my phone lit up with a new notification. Ethan had sent me a sticker.
Before I even had the chance to open it, the message was deleted.
I stared at our chat window as the typing indicator appeared, disappeared, and then returned again and again. My heartbeat gradually sped up.

It seemed like Ethan had typed something only to delete it over and over. Even through a screen, I could almost feel how conflicted and uncertain he was.
After what felt like forever, three simple words finally popped up. “Accidentally sent it.”
The moment I read them, every emotion that had quietly begun to rise inside me eased.
I let out a bitter laugh and shook my head. Then I asked, “Are you with our kids?”
He replied immediately, “I’m in the car. Just finished a closed-door seminar. The kids are at the hotel attending their classes.”
As I read his detailed explanation, describing exactly where he was and what both he and the children were doing, I found myself momentarily lost in thought.
For a brief second, it felt as though all the painful arguments and the deep hatred that had grown between us had never existed. It felt like we were still the couple who had once shared everything.
There were so many questions I wanted to ask him.
I wanted to know what the weather was like where he was. I wanted to ask when he would be coming home. Most of all, I wondered if he had ever felt the same sadness about our ending as I had.
But none of those words left my mind. I was afraid that saying anything more would destroy the fragile peace we had somehow managed to find.
Just as I was about to put my phone away and start the car, another message came from Ethan. “Do you want to see the kids tonight? We can do a video call.”
A faint smile slowly spread across my face as I looked at the screen. “No. Let them concentrate on their classes. Just record a few videos of them and send them to me.”
