Chapter 462

Chapter 462:
I had kept vigil at the edge of the Darkroot Forest, ignoring the pain in my own body, holding onto one thing: the hope that Ethan would wake up.
But in the end, I had lost him anyway, and wrecked my own body doing it.
Now I was trapped in this cold hospital bed, without even the strength to stand, much less search for the man I loved, whose fate remained unknown. Even the right to chase after him had been taken from me.
The hollow emptiness inside my chest continued to spread, threatening to consume me entirely. The despair and helplessness were far more unbearable than the pain tormenting my body.
I couldn’t stop wondering where Ethan was now.
Was he still fighting for his life somewhere in the frozen storms of the Nersard Isles, or had he already fallen into an endless sleep upon that icy altar?
I stared through the window at the gray sky beyond as silent tears slipped down my cheeks and disappeared into my hair.
My one and only wish at this moment was for Ethan to live.
Lianne’s POV:
I had no idea how much time had passed while I was out.

My thoughts were a tangled mess, as though I had been tossed around by a violent sea.
The moment my eyelids fluttered open, all I could see was an endless wash of white.
Agony pulsed through every part of me. It felt as if something enormous had crushed my entire body, pinning me against the hospital mattress.
“Lianne! You’re finally awake!”
A familiar voice, thick with tears, reached me.
As the haze slowly cleared, Tracy came into focus. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying. Behind her stood Frank, looking exhausted, his face drawn with fatigue.
“Ethan…” I tried to speak, but the sound that emerged was rough and strained, barely recognizable as my own voice.
Then everything rushed back: the rain pouring down in the Darkroot Forest, that warrior, and the chilling words he’d spoken.
Ethan had been taken away, and nobody knew what had happened to him while I lay helpless here.
Panic instantly overpowered the weakness weighing me down.
Clenching my jaw, I gripped the sides of the bed and forced my trembling body upright, determined to get up.
“Don’t!” Frank lunged forward and grabbed my shoulders.
But he was already too late.
The second I put weight on my injured leg, unbearable pain ripped through me. It felt like molten steel had been driven deep into my flesh.
The shock froze me in place. My strength vanished, and I dropped back onto the bed with a hard thud.
“Ah!”
A pained sound escaped me. My muscles tightened, and cold sweat drenched the thin hospital gown clinging to my skin.
“Have you completely lost your senses?” Frank shouted, frustration shaking his voice as he held me firmly in place. “That wound is severely infected. The doctors said the damage has reached the nerves. If you keep doing this, you may never walk properly again. Is that what you want?”
