Chapter 121:
Against someone like him, an Alpha through and through, I didn’t stand a chance.
Even after using all my strength, I still lost, and I ended up gasping for air with heat rising to my face.
Without warning, he suddenly stopped.
Noticing the shift, I followed his line of sight and glanced down, only to realize a button on my silk top had come undone during the struggle. Under the light, too much of my skin was exposed, leaving little to the imagination.
Ethan swallowed, and something in his eyes changed at once, turning darker in a way that felt dangerously intense.
Without a second thought, he flung the phone aside and leaned in close, his breath brushing against my collarbone. “Lianne, why don’t we spend the night together?”
Slowly, his hand traced its way up my waist, the heat of his touch making my body tense.
There was a time when I would’ve given in to that quiet pull of his.

Now, after everything I’d been through and the weight pressing on me, the way he approached me like it was an afterthought made my stomach churn.
“I’m exhausted.” I shoved his hand away without hesitation, my tone edged with quiet ridicule. “So after staying with Ivy, you suddenly remember you have a wife? I’m not here as your second option, and I’m definitely not something you can use whenever you feel like it.”
Since I’d already decided to walk away, there was no reason left to pretend to be soft or accommodating.
At my words, Ethan froze. He stared at me, surprise and anger flashing through his eyes, but it quickly turned into a cold scoff as he rolled over and faced the other side.
Half-asleep, I caught the faint sound of movement.
It seemed like Ethan was getting out of bed.
Carefully, he moved around, almost as if he didn’t want to wake me.
Keeping my eyes shut, I listened as he changed and quietly slipped out.
Not long after, the sound of a car starting echoed from downstairs.
My eyes snapped open, fixing on the shadows of tree branches shifting across the ceiling. Inside my chest, everything felt hollow and numb.
There was no need to guess. Ivy must have called again.
A headache, a bad dream, whatever excuse she used, all it took was a word from her, and Ethan would rush over without hesitation.
I didn’t try to stop him, and I didn’t ask him why.
All I did was lie there in the dark, letting that heavy sense of being left behind swallow me completely.
Just before dawn broke, the sound of an engine finally echoed back.
Ethan had returned.
As he slipped under the covers beside me, the cool air from outside came with him, along with a trace of unfamiliar perfume that didn’t belong here.
Carefully, he pulled the blanket over us, acting as if he had never stepped out.
Keeping my breathing even, I stayed still and pretended to be asleep, as though I hadn’t noticed anything.
