Chapter 954:
Everything I had done today was part of the same deception. Every concession, every carefully measured response, every hint that I might accept Melisa was designed for one purpose. I needed to keep her complacent and prevent her from turning the leverage she possessed against the woman I loved. Melisa continued speaking for a while, offering one sweet promise after another.
Eventually, my detached expression made it clear that she wasn’t going to get anything more from me today. She finally stopped and prepared to leave.
Before stepping through the doorway, she glanced back. There was determination burning in her eyes.
The moment she disappeared from sight and the door clicked shut, the faint warmth I’d deliberately shown her disappeared completely.

I leaned into my chair, closed my eyes, and released a slow, exhausted breath.
Lianne’s POV:
Recently, I had been making serious plans to open a studio of my own. Once things finally calmed down, I wanted to return to the jewelry design business I had always loved. I couldn’t bear to keep putting aside the sketches, gemstone samples, and creative ideas that had once consumed my nights.
So, whenever I had some spare time, I sat at my computer and went through potential studio spaces, carefully considering each property.
The place needed to be in a good location, have plenty of sunlight, and, if possible, come with a small courtyard where I could plant some flowers.
I was in the middle of reviewing the listings when the doorbell rang unexpectedly.
I stood up to answer it, but the moment I saw the person outside, I paused.
Tracy was standing there with a bag of fruit in her hands, her expression unusually gloomy.
“What are you doing here?” I moved aside to let her in. “You didn’t even tell me you were coming.”
“I missed you, so I came to see you,” she replied. She dropped the fruit onto the coffee table, then collapsed onto the sofa and let out a long, weary sigh.
I made her a cup of coffee, placed it in her hands, and sat down beside her. “What happened? You look like something is bothering you.”
She accepted the coffee, took a small sip, and muttered, “Jeremy and I had another argument.”
I lifted an eyebrow. “What did you two fight about this time?”
“It was because I mentioned Ivy,” she said with a pout. “I honestly didn’t mean anything by it. I just asked him whether Ivy used to like that coffee shop too. But his expression changed immediately, and he refused to speak to me for the rest of the afternoon. I tried everything to cheer him up, but nothing worked. He wouldn’t even spare me a glance.”
I sighed helplessly and explained, “Tracy, Jeremy once loved Ivy with all his heart, only for her to betray him. It took him a long time to recover from that pain. When you suddenly brought her up, you touched the very wound he had worked so hard to heal. Of course he was going to feel hurt.”
Tracy’s brows drew together. “But I honestly didn’t mean anything by it. I only mentioned her in passing. How could I have known it would affect him that badly?”
