Chapter 486:
The instant those words left my mouth, the atmosphere in the room turned cold.
The awkwardness in Ethan’s eyes vanished immediately, replaced by a terrifying chill.
He stared at me without blinking. His grip tightened so much it felt as though my bones might crack.
“What did you just say?” Every word was squeezed out through clenched teeth.

His reaction caught me off guard. At the same time, all the bitterness and frustration I had buried for years surged inside me.
“Was I wrong?” I muttered unhappily. “Besides, during those years when I was gone, I’m sure there were plenty of women around you. It’s not like this would be anything new for you.”
“Plenty of women around me?” Ethan repeated my words slowly, his voice low and cold.
Disbelief filled his dark eyes. Tilting his head slightly, he studied me as though wondering whether the high fever had somehow damaged my mind.
The more innocent he looked, the more all the resentment I had suppressed for nearly four years came surging out.
“Did I say anything unreasonable?” I scoffed. “You have your physical needs. During the years we were apart, you must have had no shortage of women around you.”
I knew I no longer had the right to question his private life. Even so, I couldn’t suppress the ache and jealousy rising inside me.
“Lianne. Explain what you mean.” His voice dropped lower. As he moved, fresh blood stains began spreading through the bandages wrapped around his chest.
“Stop moving!” Alarmed, I immediately leaned forward to stop him, only to freeze under his unwavering stare.
“Explain.” His eyes locked onto mine, unrelenting. “When exactly did I ever have another woman around me? What are you imagining?”
I really didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to reopen old wounds or revisit those painful memories.
But Ethan refused to let it go, and the exasperated look on his face finally pushed me over the edge.
“Fine. Since you insist, I’ll tell you.” I drew a deep breath and steadied my trembling voice. “I once secretly came back to see you. That night, you were drunk and asleep on the couch in the villa. I felt guilty. I thought that even if I couldn’t stay, I could at least check on you. Maybe cover you with a blanket…”
My thoughts drifted back to that cold, rainy evening.
With trembling hands, I had approached him, wanting to smooth his messy hair. But as soon as I got close enough, I noticed the bite marks scattered across his shoulder. They hadn’t completely faded.
Those marks carried a meaning every werewolf understood. They were made during intimate moments.
And they were in places on his body he could never have reached on his own.
In that instant, every trace of guilt and heartache inside me was extinguished, like a burning candle drowned in water.
I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I turned and fled. For countless nights afterward, the memory of those marks haunted me, filling me with pain and disappointment.
