Chapter 67:
The mark he gave me had never come from love. It had only ever come from that damned, cheap possessiveness.
Lianne’s POV:
The air inside the car felt heavy and hard to breathe.
“Lianne,” Ethan said after a moment, his voice low. “Even if you’re unhappy, you shouldn’t act like this.”
I didn’t look at him. My gaze stayed forward as I answered in a calm, flat tone, “I’m not unhappy, and I’m not joking. I just don’t need your concern anymore, Ethan.”
“Don’t need it?” He gave a cold laugh. “Do you really have to act like this? I already explained everything. What’s between me and Ivy is temporary. Why can’t you just let it go? You used to be understanding. You used to know how to compromise.”

I opened one eye and glanced at him, then lifted a brow. There was a hint of mockery in my voice. “What exactly did I do wrong? I’m giving you what you want. I’m not holding on to false hope anymore, and I won’t interfere with your life. Isn’t that what you wanted? This way, you won’t have to keep pretending to be a devoted husband every day. You might not be tired, but I’m already tired of watching.”
“Lianne!” he growled as he suddenly leaned closer.
Before I could react, he shoved me hard against the cold window.
His body pressed down on mine, trapping me in place so I couldn’t move.
“Let go…”
I didn’t get to finish. His lips crashed onto mine, carrying the sharp scent of wood and alcohol.
There was nothing gentle about it. It wasn’t a kiss. It felt like he was trying to force control, trying to claim something that wasn’t his anymore.
He forced his way in, rough and without restraint.
The glass behind me felt cold, while his body burned against me.
I struggled and pushed against his chest, trying to break free. In that moment, he felt like a stranger. But my strength meant nothing against him.
I used all my strength and slapped him across the face. A sharp sound cut through the confined space.
Ethan’s head snapped to the side, and he stopped moving at once.
I drew in a shaky breath, my eyes damp as I stared at him.
Everything I had held back for three years broke loose in that moment.
“What gives you the right to treat me like this?” My voice shook as I spoke. “Do you really need me to list everything you’ve done? Do you think I’m trying to accuse you? No. You’re the one who’s been wrong from the start.”
Confusion flashed across his face, mixed with surprise. “What are you talking about? What did I even do? What’s wrong with you, Lianne?”
