Chapter 298:
“I’ll say this one more time: every cent was distributed according to the contract, and the financial records are completely transparent!” I shot back coldly, standing my ground without yielding. “I’ve already contacted the Gamma Patrol Unit. They’ll be here any minute. You still have time to leave now!”
“The Gamma Patrol Unit? Let’s see who can save you today!”
One of the men rushed forward, snatched my phone away, and slammed it onto the concrete.
With a sharp crack, the screen shattered into pieces, and the device went black.
“Grab her! Teach this bitch a lesson!”
Several men lunged straight at me.
I instinctively tried to step back, only to realize the way out had already been cut off.
The moment they flung a handful of unknown powder at me, I stopped breathing and swerved to the side, but a thick, heavy hand still seized my hair and yanked me brutally into the crowd.
“Anna!” I shouted inwardly.
Anna answered with a furious roar, and the power that had slept inside me for so long burst awake in an instant.
I caught the man’s wrist, my fingertips turning into sharp claws, and tore down hard.

“Ah!”
A shrill cry rang out as the man grabbed his bloodied arm and stumbled backward.
“Damn it! This bitch doesn’t fight like a normal woman! She’s not ordinary!”
Anna and I worked together, cutting through the crowd in flawless rhythm.
Though there were many of them, they had poor teamwork.
None of them knew that the woman before them had once been the most promising contender for a top Gamma warrior position at the Pack Academy.
Even so, I could not keep fighting so many men forever.
I was on my own, and I had to remain wary of every filthy trick they might use.
As my strength drained away at an alarming pace, my movements gradually slowed.
Suddenly, I sensed a rush of air from behind me.
I tried to evade it, but the powder I had breathed in earlier made my body hesitate for a split second.
A brutal strike crashed into the back of my head, and searing pain tore through me.
The world reeled, my sight went hazy, and my knees buckled. I hit the dusty ground hard.
“Take her away!”
Through the fog, I caught the sight of their vicious smiles and heard their foul curses.
I fought to stay awake and to rouse Anna, but my consciousness felt as though it were sinking into a bottomless void.
Just before the darkness swallowed me whole, I thought I heard a howl rip through the air, followed by a voice I knew so well that it made my soul shudder, tinged with overwhelming fury and the faintest tremor, echoing in my ear.
“Don’t be scared, Lianne. It’s me… I’m here…”
Was it an illusion?
As I stood on the edge of leaving this world, why was it his voice I heard?
Lianne’s POV:
My awareness floated in and out, as if I were sinking into the depths of the sea, my body so light that it felt as if it could break apart at any second.
