Chapter 411:
When the elevator reached the first floor, the doors opened, and I ran straight into Alex waiting outside.
“Oh my gosh, Lianne, you’re finally here!” Alex grabbed my arm, eyes shining with curiosity. “So what happened upstairs? Did Mr. Voss spot your talent and give you an amazing assignment? You ran out looking completely flushed. Did you get a bonus or something?”
I forced myself to calm down and shook my head, desperate to distance myself from Ethan. “No… nothing happened. He just gave a few instructions for the handover. That’s all. I barely know him, Alex. Really. I just ran too fast and got out of breath.”
“Barely know him?” Alex clearly did not believe me and followed alongside me. “Then why did he personally call your name in the waiting room? Lianne, you can’t miss this opportunity. If an Alpha like him notices you, your whole life could change overnight. You used to say Brian was more refined than him, but honestly, you’re just not seeing things clearly.”
I nodded stiffly while Alex kept talking, but none of it reached me. My mind was still trapped in Ethan’s confession of love in that husky voice.
It echoed over and over again until my chest ached. I just wanted to get out of this building. Far away from him.
Sitting in my new office, I stared at the pile of documents for the mall development project, yet not a single word registered in my mind.
I had planned to bury myself in work this afternoon and request to be stationed at the construction site first thing tomorrow.

As long as I stayed far enough away, Ethan would not be able to interfere.
But before I could put that plan into motion, there was a knock at the door.
Noah stood there with his usual unreadable smile. “Ms. Riley, Alpha asked me to inform you that you will be accompanying him to lunch to meet the mall project partners.”
“Meet the partners?” I frowned. “For a project like this, the project manager should handle it. Why does the CEO need to go personally? I only just took over this project today.”
“Alpha wants it this way,” Noah said simply with a shrug. There was no arguing with that.
In Voss Group, Ethan’s word was law.
“Noah, can’t you talk to him?” I looked at him, my voice dropping into something almost pleading. “We already ended the mate bond. Staying entangled like this is not good for his reputation, and it’s not fair to his new mate either. Does he really think he’s doing right by her?”
Noah’s expression flickered for a brief moment.
He avoided the question and instead said quietly, “Ms. Riley, instead of asking me, why not ask Alpha yourself? What if the one he has been waiting for all this time is you?”
I lowered my gaze and bit my lip hard.
I did not dare ask. And I did not dare risk it. Three years ago had already broken me too thoroughly.
