Chapter 774:
The devastating obsession burning in his eyes filled me with genuine fear. I stood rooted to the spot, every ounce of strength draining from my body until I couldn’t even think of arguing with him.
In a daze, I stumbled out of the room. The harsh fluorescent lights lining the hallway blurred before my eyes.
I didn’t want Ethan to die. And I certainly didn’t want to watch him get hurt because of me.
But if living meant endless suffering for both of us… was my disappearance the only way to bring this nightmare to an end?
“Here. Drink some water.” Melisa appeared beside me before I even realized she was there and quietly guided me into the staff break room.

I accepted the glass with trembling hands. My fingertips were so cold they felt completely numb.
After a few small sips, I stared blankly at the ripples dancing across the surface of the water. When I finally spoke, my own voice sounded hollow and distant. “Melisa… if I died… do you think I’d finally return to the Moon Goddess and be free?”
“Don’t say something so foolish.” Melisa frowned deeply, her voice low but firm. “You’re Ethan’s fated mate. If you die, he won’t survive for long either. A werewolf who loses their mate slowly withers away.”
“But as long as I live, I’ll never forgive Rola.”
I looked up at her with a bitter smile. “She killed my father. She destroyed everything I had. That hatred can never disappear. And as long as it exists, Ethan and I will always stand on opposite sides of a blood debt. This isn’t love anymore. It’s a curse.”
Silence settled heavily over the room.
Melisa looked at me for a long time. The sympathy in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by quiet resignation.
She had finally understood. No amount of persuasion could erase the hatred rooted inside me or bridge the impossible distance between Ethan and me.
“If you refuse to let go of your hatred and return to Ethan…” She drew a slow breath before speaking again, her tone turning calm, practical, and frighteningly resolute. “Then I’ll accept my family’s arrangement and complete the mate bond with Ethan.”
My grip loosened. The glass shook violently in my hand, spilling cold water over my fingers.
“I don’t have your courage, Lianne.” A bitter smile tugged at Melisa’s lips. “I can’t fight the entire world. For my family’s sake, and to survive within the Thorn Pack’s rigid hierarchy, I have to compromise. Since you don’t want him… then let me become his Luna.”
She walked to the window, standing with her back to me, her slender figure proud, distant, impossibly lonely. “But remember this.” She slowly turned around, her gaze unwavering. “Ethan’s kindness… his patience… they’ve all been reserved for you alone. Anyone else who becomes his mate will spend the rest of her life carefully measuring every word and every step around him and the pack. He may be an exceptional Alpha, but he’ll never be a good mate.”
