Chapter 970:
After ending the call, I placed my phone on the table. That was when I noticed Lianne was already awake.
She stood beside the kitchen doorway with a glass of water in her hand, silently watching me. Her expression appeared composed, but the worry in her eyes was apparent.
“You heard everything?” I asked.
She nodded and walked over. After a brief silence, she said in a low voice, “Ethan, if this plan actually succeeds, just hypothetically, what will happen to the child?”
I wrapped my arms around her and answered honestly, “Don’t worry. I never planned to give Melisa what she’s asking for.”
Lianne lifted her head, looking confused.
My face hardened. “She poisoned you and put you through so much suffering. This is just the price she has to pay. As for what happens to her, I don’t care.”
She leaned against me for a while, then sighed helplessly. “Tell me something. Does every woman who falls in love with you end up with a tragic fate?”
I looked down at her and arched an eyebrow. “Are you feeling sorry for her?”
“Not exactly.” She shook her head. “I just feel a little sad about how things turned out.”

I wrapped my arms tighter around her, drew her closer, and placed my chin on top of her head. My voice was low but resolute. “Lianne, I’ve never been concerned about what happens to any other woman. The only woman I care about is you.”
Lianne’s POV:
Ethan had already arranged every detail of the plan. Now it was my responsibility to play my role and make sure nothing went wrong. By now, Melisa was probably lost in her own delusions. She had taken Ethan’s promise to have a child with her as proof that he truly wanted her. In her mind, victory was within reach.
The thought made me sneer inwardly, though I kept my face perfectly composed.
I was studying the renovation plans for my studio when my phone suddenly rang. It was Melisa. I answered and deliberately spoke in an irritated tone. “What is it?”
Melisa sounded relaxed and confident, with a note of satisfaction. “Lianne, have you reconsidered the compensation list I sent you? You should accept what I’ve offered while you still have the chance. Otherwise, you might walk away with nothing.”
I pretended to be greedy and scoffed. “That pathetic amount? I know exactly how much Ethan is worth. What you’ve offered isn’t even worth calling compensation. It’s just a handful of scraps.”
As I expected, her confidence grew even stronger. She said with smug delight, “You probably don’t know this yet, but Ethan has agreed to have a child with me. Do you honestly think he’ll still care about you after that?”
I immediately raised my voice and exclaimed in disbelief, “What?! He wants to have a child with you? That’s impossible! Ethan would never agree to that!”
Melisa let out a chuckle, clearly enjoying my supposed shock. “Why wouldn’t he? He told me himself. We’ve already discussed everything, and we’ll be moving in together soon. Lianne, you’ve lost.”
