Chapter 150:
The blow knocked Ethan’s head to the side, and five bright red finger marks quickly appeared on his cheek.
He didn’t lose his temper, nor did he hit me back.
He only remained like that for a long while in silence before slowly lifting a hand to touch the burning skin.
“Alright. I’ll leave,” he said softly, his voice carrying a kind of weary resignation I had never heard from him before.
He backed away a few steps, then gave me one last look. There was too much in his eyes, too many emotions knotted together, but I no longer had any desire to understand any of it.
Then he turned, opened the door, and vanished into the hallway.

When the door clicked shut, I sank onto the carpet, all the strength leaving my body as silent tears slid down my face.
Explain? What meaning did that have anymore?
I would never be able to erase that day from my memory. When those rogue wolves spat the foulest insults at me and even tried to rip at my clothes, Ethan had hung up on my call for help without the slightest hesitation.
At that time, he was with Ivy.
That was when I finally understood. In his eyes, my dignity, my safety, even my life, were all worthless next to Ivy.
Everything had already been made obvious by what he chose to do.
Any explanation now was nothing more than his way of making himself feel better.
But my heart had already been shattered past the point of healing.
I had no need for his excuses, and I didn’t want him to have any more influence over me.
I brushed away my tears, got to my feet, and went back to packing.
Tomorrow, the exhibition would open.
And at last, I would leave this nightmare behind.
Ethan’s POV:
After leaving the hotel, I drove back through the night.
I kept my gaze locked on the road in front of me. I made myself think about next week’s board meeting and latch onto anything unrelated to Lianne.
Yet the more fiercely I tried to shove her from my thoughts, the more stubbornly she remained, like a thorn buried in flesh, a muted ache flaring with every breath.
The dim glimmer in her eyes whenever she smiled. The way she would clamp her lips shut when anger took hold. The tiny quiver of her lashes when she was hurt.
And the night I walked away, when she dropped onto the carpet with barely anything covering her, wearing that hollow, hopeless expression in her eyes.
That image kept circling through my head again and again, never letting up.
For the next two nights after my return, the same nightmare came for me.
In those dreams, Lianne and I had already cut our mate bond completely.
She had on a spotless white wedding gown, her hand laid on Frank’s arm as the two of them moved toward the altar.
