Chapter 492:
Melisa looked from Ethan to my flushed face, confusion written all over her features as she clearly sensed the strange tension hanging between us.
“A bath? At least wait until your wound has completely healed!” Melisa scolded impatiently while expertly changing Ethan’s bandages.
Her hands moved quickly as she secured the fresh dressing, then gathered the medicine tray and made a swift exit.
The moment the door clicked shut, all the frustration I’d been holding back the entire morning finally exploded.
“Ethan! That was deliberate, wasn’t it?” I hissed through clenched teeth, keeping my voice down. “The things you said just now, the way you stared at me. What’s Melisa supposed to think now?”

“I only asked when I’d be allowed to take a bath. What’s wrong with that?” He spread his hands innocently, looking nothing like the dignified Alpha he was supposed to be. Instead, he resembled a shameless rogue.
“You… you’re impossible!” I was shaking with indignation. Turning my wheelchair around in a huff, I declared, “I’m going to find Tracy right now. I’ll stay with her tonight. You can take care of yourself!”
“Are you really going to leave me?” Rather than looking worried, he leaned back comfortably and regarded me with infuriating composure. “I can’t even roll over by myself yet. What if my wound tears open again tonight? What if I spike a fever? No one in the Thorn Pack takes care of me as gently as you do.”
“The Thorn Pack has plenty of caregivers. If you asked, they’d be lining up outside your door!” I shot back.
“But you’re the only one who can make me feel better, Lianne.” His gaze suddenly darkened with obsession, and his voice carried a warning impossible to ignore. “Don’t even think about running away. Once I’m fully recovered tomorrow… you won’t have any say in the matter.”
I stared at him, caught between disbelief and exasperation.
The Ethan I remembered, cold, composed, and decisive, seemed to have cast aside every layer of restraint, revealing a possessive, shameless side I had never seen before. And somehow, infuriatingly enough, he still made my heart pound.
Just as neither of us was willing to back down, another knock sounded at the door.
This time, it was Rola.
Dressed in a dark green velvet gown, she carried herself with her usual air of pride and aloofness.
Without sparing me so much as a glance, she walked straight to Ethan’s bedside and asked a few brief questions about his condition.
I could feel the hostility rolling off her in waves. In that instant, I knew she had begun to resent me.
“Ethan, I need a private word with you,” Rola finally said, her tone as cold as ice. “Ask the irrelevant person to leave.”
Ethan’s expression darkened immediately. Instinctively, he reached for my hand and held it tightly, as though making a silent declaration. “Whatever you need to say, you can say it in front of Lianne.”
I knew he didn’t want me to feel excluded, nor did he want me to think he was hiding anything from me.
