Chapter 725:
Tracy stared at me with wide eyes. After a long silence, she suddenly exclaimed, “Oh my God, Lianne! I never thought I’d actually be excited to watch you pursue Ethan!”
I quickly looked away, my face flushing with embarrassment. The thought of pursuing Ethan, of putting aside my pride to win him back, felt completely foreign to me.
Since Tracy knew me too well, she didn’t bother being gentle. “Let’s face it. You’re nothing like Ethan when it comes to persistence. That man never knows when to quit. But you? You’re far too proud. If he ignores you or rejects you a couple of times, you’ll hide behind your walls again and never dare make another move.”
I had barely opened my mouth to defend myself when the kitchen door opened, and Jeremy walked out carrying two steaming dishes.
He set the dishes down, then lifted Tracy and carried her to the dining table in long, steady strides.
The entire thing was so smooth and natural it seemed like second nature to him. It was almost as though I didn’t exist.
Lianne’s POV:
Tracy’s cheeks turned bright red as she squirmed, trying to slip free from Jeremy’s embrace.
I couldn’t resist laughing. “Alright, you two, pretend I’m not here.”

Watching them together, their eyes holding no one but each other, filled me with quiet relief.
Finding both a place to belong and a mate who truly cherished you was a blessing few were lucky enough to receive.
After dinner, Tracy and I sat talking for hours until the night grew deep.
Since she was pregnant, I didn’t want to keep her awake any longer, so I stood and prepared to leave.
“It’s too late to take a cab by yourself,” Tracy said, her tone leaving no room for argument. “Jeremy will drive you home.”
Knowing she wouldn’t take no for an answer, I reluctantly agreed and followed Jeremy outside.
The moment I stepped into the car, the silence felt suffocating.
Being trapped alone with Jeremy in such a confined space made every nerve in my body tense. If Tracy hadn’t been expecting a baby, and if I hadn’t wanted to spare her unnecessary worry, I would never have accepted the ride.
Somewhere along the way, I’d lost the ability to feel comfortable around any man who wasn’t Ethan. That instinctive resistance settled heavily over me.
I curled into the far corner of the back seat, resting my head against the window as I watched the neon lights blur past outside.
When the car stopped at a red light, Jeremy finally spoke after the long silence. “Lianne, did you know Ethan’s planning to sell the house you lived in together? Everything the two of you once shared is going with it.”
My fingers twitched as though an electric current had shot through them, and a sharp ache tightened around my heart.
Keeping my eyes lowered to hide the storm inside them, I answered quietly, “We’ve cut off all contact. I didn’t know.”
