Chapter 194:
“That’s enough.” I cut him off without warmth. “I already understand everything. From this point on, don’t bring up Ivy in front of me again.”
I couldn’t stop myself from wondering what it was I had ever seen in him.
Was it the way he humiliated me time and again? Or the way he chose to deceive me for another woman’s sake?
The office sank into a suffocating stillness.

Ethan’s lips pressed into a thin line, as though he meant to say something, but after a long pause, he stayed silent. He rose from his seat and walked toward the restroom.
At that moment, the phone he’d left on the desk began to buzz insistently.
The screen lit up with a name, Ava. She was Ivy’s personal assistant.
My body tensed. The inevitable had finally arrived.
Ethan stepped out of the restroom, glanced at the display, frowned, and declined the call without hesitation.
“Why not pick up?” I leaned back against the couch, a faint, self-derisive curve tugging at my lips. “What if it’s urgent?”
He didn’t answer, his expression dark and unreadable.
The next instant, the office door was flung open. Noah rushed in, clutching his phone, panic written all over him. “Alpha, Ava just called me. She said she has to speak with you, and she mentioned Ivy.”
Noah had the call on speaker, and Ava’s frantic, breaking voice filled the room at once. “Alpha! Please, answer me! If you don’t come right now, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!”
Ethan crossed the room in long strides, took the phone from him, and moved toward the window. His voice came out cold, sharp as ice. “I’m in the middle of a meeting. I’ve already said I’m no longer involved in her personal matters.”
“But Ivy,” Ava’s voice dissolved into uncontrollable sobs through the line. “She’s at the hospital. She’s completely unstable. She won’t cooperate with treatment, no one can restrain her! Please, you have to come!”
“Sedate her.” Ethan’s tone remained utterly flat. “If one doctor can’t manage it, get more people to hold her down. She injured a doctor? Then deal with it.”
He ended the call and turned his gaze toward me.
I pushed myself upright from the couch, my body heavy with fatigue, studying him, holding himself together on the surface, yet visibly unsettled beneath it. “You’re not going?” I asked coolly. “What if she’s really lost her mind?”
Ethan looked straight at me, his stare piercing. A moment later, his phone vibrated violently again. It was a message from Ava.
The instant he opened it, his eyes narrowed. His entire body stiffened, as if struck by a sudden shock.
“What happened?” I rose to my feet without thinking.
Ethan slowly lifted his head to face me. His eyes held a weight I had never seen before, laced with something dangerously close to despair.
“She took silver poison.” His voice came out rough, edged with a faint, uncontrollable tremor. “Ivy tried to end her life.”
