Chapter 655:
The moment she picked up, Alex’s furious voice came through the speaker, loud enough for everyone nearby to hear. “Zoe! Have you lost your mind? How many times have I told you not to provoke Lianne? Are you trying to destroy yourself?”
Rather than admitting fault, Zoe burst into tears and complained bitterly, “Alex, you’re obviously taking her side! Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for her! You—”
“Enough!” Alex snapped, cutting her off harshly. He openly revealed the truth over the phone. “Do you even know who Lianne really is? She’s Ethan’s mate and the future Luna of Thorn Pack! Are you actually picking a fight with her? Don’t you care about your life?”
Zoe’s sobbing stopped at once. She froze where she stood. Her phone slipped from her fingers and hit the floor while she stared at me with wide, doubtful eyes.
“Ethan’s mate… how can that be…” she whispered in a daze. “If she’s really Ethan’s mate, why would she be working here…”

Alex let out a cold scoff from the other end of the line. “Believe it or don’t. If you’ve got that much courage, go complain to Ethan yourself and see what he does to you.”
Every trace of Zoe’s confidence disappeared in an instant. She stood there defeated, as though every bit of strength had left her body.
I didn’t spare her another glance. I kept a calm demeanor, turned around, and walked back to my office while our colleagues silently watched me.
The hallway was still in turmoil. The security guards were eventually convinced to leave, while several colleagues gathered around Zoe, trying to comfort her. As for me, I felt completely exhausted.
I sank into my office chair, hoping to finally catch my breath. At that moment, my phone vibrated.
I unlocked the screen, and my heart immediately began to race.
I had six missed calls. All from Ethan.
A second later, WhatsApp notifications flooded my screen one after another.
“Why aren’t you picking up?”
“Lianne, answer right now!”
“Answer your phone!”
Every message carried urgency and barely contained anger, as though those emotions were pouring straight through the screen.
My fingers shook slightly around my phone.
Just the other day, Ethan had brushed me off with a cold excuse that he was busy. Now he was desperately trying to reach me.
With all the chaos outside, I hadn’t even realized my phone had been vibrating nonstop inside my bag.
I drew in a slow breath. My finger hovered over Ethan’s number when a gentle knock came at my office door.
Zoe walked in.
The arrogance and hostility she had shown earlier were gone. She stood there with her head lowered, nervously wringing her hands together.
“Ms. Riley… I’m sorry.” Her voice was so low it was almost a whisper, and it trembled with obvious fear. “I lost control earlier and said things I never should have. Please forgive me and let it go.”
I looked at her silently. I knew she wasn’t scared because of me. She was scared of the man behind me, the one who could wipe her out of the industry with a single word.
“You don’t want to lose your job, right?” I asked evenly.
