Chapter 454

Chapter 454:
They recited ancient incantations in low voices, their eerie chants rising and falling like whispers from hell.
Never before had I seen so many witches gathered in one place.
Although the Thorn Pack and the witches had always maintained a delicate relationship, it had never been enough to justify mobilizing so many of them for the sake of one werewolf.
What price had the Thorn Pack paid for this? And just how severe were Ethan’s injuries, to require such a ritual?
As my body turned cold and dread settled deep inside me, a heart-wrenching cry rose from beneath the altar.
“Ethan… my precious boy… please, open your eyes and look at me!”

It was Rola.
Gone was the elegant, composed woman I knew. She was sprawled on the ground beneath the altar, weeping so desperately it seemed her soul was being torn apart.
Again and again, she struck the cold stone with trembling hands, begging through her tears. “You’re still so young… you can’t leave me. I’ve already lost Harold. I can’t lose you too…”
A loud buzz filled my head, and everything around me faded into the background.
Rola’s anguished sobs felt like a blunt knife, cutting again and again through my already broken heart.
If even Rola had given up hope… if even the witches couldn’t save Ethan…
Then was Ethan dead? The horrifying thought wrapped around my heart, squeezing tighter and tighter.
In an instant, I sank into endless despair. Compared to this pain, the silver poison destroying my body felt like nothing.
My legs buckled beneath me and I fell to the side. My torn clothing scraped against dry branches, making a grinding sound.
“Who’s there?!” An angry voice suddenly pierced the silence.
Before I could react, a figure in red rushed toward me like a raging beast.
It was Evelyn, Ethan’s sister-in-law. Her beautiful face was twisted with fury, her eyes bloodshot. The instant she recognized me, the hatred she’d been suppressing flared.
“You wretched woman! How dare you come here!” Evelyn screamed, shoving me with brutal force.
I had no strength left to resist. Her push sent me flying backward.
My body slammed hard against a sharp rock. The wounds that had only just stopped bleeding split open again.
Burning pain shot through every part of my body. I curled up on the ground, struggling to breathe as fresh blood slowly seeped into the soil beneath me.
“This is all because of you! If Ethan hadn’t tried to save you, none of this would have happened!” Evelyn stood over me, her eyes full of hatred and contempt. “You’re nothing but a curse! You brought death to your own father, and now you’ve brought disaster to Ethan too! You’re bad luck itself. Why didn’t you die together with Ivy? Why are you still alive?”
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…” I lay on the ground, accepting every accusation she threw at me.
My gaze dropped to my injured hands, then slowly moved toward the altar.
Maybe Evelyn was right. If I had never existed, Ethan would never have suffered like this.
