Chapter 961:
A flush immediately spread across Melisa’s face. Her lips parted, but for a moment, she couldn’t find a response. I pressed on before she could recover. “Let me make this clear. I’m entitled to my share of Ethan’s assets, and I’m getting it. You’d be smart to keep your nose out of this. Otherwise, I’ll expose your little affair for everyone to see. Let’s find out who has more to lose!”
Melisa stood there speechless, her face burning with a mixture of humiliation and fury.
After the heated confrontation, I began to feel slightly weak and short of breath, and a thin layer of cold sweat formed across my forehead. I gave her a final icy look before adding, “And that bottle of medicine you gave me? I didn’t even dare take it. I threw the whole thing away. Who knows what you were actually planning?”
A flicker of doubt appeared in Melisa’s eyes, her brows drawing together.
But Ethan’s earlier act of frailty had been convincing enough to put her at ease, and she quickly pushed aside any doubts.
After a brief silence, she replied coldly, “Fine. Have it your way. Just don’t come crying later.”
I took the opening and laid down my ultimatum. “Three days. I want to get what I deserve from Ethan. Or I’m taking this to court.”
With that, I turned and walked away in quick steps, afraid that if I stayed another second, Melisa might see through me.

Only after I was certain she’d left the hospital did I return to Ethan’s room.
When I opened the door, Ethan was already sitting upright against the headboard. The sickly pallor and exhausted expression he’d worn moments earlier were gone, replaced by unmistakable amusement sparkling in his eyes.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “Bravo. You really sold it. You didn’t even spare me in the process.”
My cheeks flushed. “I was just pretending! Tracy gave me a crash course. She said the only way to beat Melisa is to out-crazy her.”
He chuckled and crooked a finger at me. “Come here.”
I made my way over and had just barely perched on the edge of the bed when he reached out and drew me gently into his embrace.
My heart immediately began racing, and I instinctively tried to push him away. “Ethan, we’re in a hospital!”
“I know.” He leaned in, pressing his forehead to mine, his voice low and warm. “But I missed you.”
His warm breath ghosted across my face, tinged with the faint scent of antiseptic, yet it oddly brought me comfort. My heart hammered, a blush creeping up my cheeks as I set my hand on his chest. “Please don’t… What if someone comes through that door?”
“They won’t.” He pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. “Noah’s watching the door.”
“Still…” My objection died in my throat as I met his gaze and found it impossibly gentle.
He ran his fingers through my hair, his voice dropping to a quiet, earnest vow. “Lianne, once all of this is behind us, I’m taking you home.”
