Chapter 523:
“No. It’s not too soon.” His fingers suddenly tightened around mine, and he pulled me down onto the edge of the bed. His sharp gaze locked onto mine, as though he was searching for every thought in my mind. “Lianne, you’ve been avoiding this topic. Ever since I woke up, you’ve deflected every conversation about our future. Tell me honestly… have you never imagined a future for us at all?”
Trapped beneath the weight of his questions, I leaned back until I felt the edge of the bed pressing against me. My heartbeat quickened.
“I… I just don’t want to make plans for something that isn’t guaranteed yet,” I muttered at last.
Lianne’s POV:
“Is that so?” Ethan let out a bitter laugh. He looked hurt and angry. “These past few days, you’ve looked after me, treated me with such care. Was that all because you felt guilty? Lianne, tell me. What am I to you now?”
I pressed my lips together. After a moment of silence, I answered softly, “You’re the children’s father.”
“Only the children’s father?”
The air around Ethan changed immediately.
He gripped my chin and tilted my face upward until I had no choice but to meet his gaze. His eyes were slightly red, burning with restrained emotion.
“Look at me, Lianne.” His voice dropped low, rough with possessiveness. “I’m your mate. Don’t hide behind the children. You know exactly what I want.”

He sat so close that his body heat wrapped around me completely.
The weight of his presence left me weak, and my heart pounded wildly in my chest.
“I can protect you.” He placed his forehead against mine, speaking with unwavering certainty, as though making a vow. “Rola, the elders, I don’t care who it is. None of them will ever take you or the children from me. Whatever dangers you’re worried about, I’ll deal with them. All you have to do is stay with me. Do you understand?”
My eyes stung as I stared at him.
“Ethan, I’ve been through so much already.” I let out a weary sigh. I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face against his chest. “I’m tired. I don’t have the energy to think that far ahead anymore. Right now, I just want to live in the present.”
“Then stop worrying about the future.” He kissed the top of my head, his voice soft but unwavering. “Leave everything to me. All I need from you is your total trust.”
I nodded. I did trust him. I trusted that he would do everything within his power to keep Ruby and Silas safe.
Before going to sleep, I called Frank to check on the children. He assured me they were doing well.
Just before the call ended, I heard Ruby’s cheerful laughter in the background, followed by Silas’s calm little voice.
“Don’t worry, Lianne. Tracy already picked them up, and we’re taking them to their favorite restaurant now.” Frank’s voice carried its usual warmth and steadiness, the kind that always made me feel at ease. “Just focus on taking care of yourself.”
The tension weighing on my chest eased slightly. “Thank you, Frank. You’ve helped us so much these past few days.”
“You never need to thank me.” He laughed softly. The line went quiet for a while. Then he said, “Get some rest, okay?”
