Chapter 793:
There was a playful note in his voice as he spoke.
I immediately understood what he was implying. My cheeks flushed, and I quickly pulled the blanket up to cover half my face. “I wasn’t thinking about anything like that! Stop teasing me.”
A deep laugh escaped him, vibrating through his chest. The tremor traveled through the mattress and sent a slight shiver through me.
“I have a meeting at the office,” he said, glancing at his watch. “I’ll be gone for around three hours. If you start feeling unwell, or if you simply want to hear my voice, call me whenever you want, okay?”
I nodded. My eyes dropped to the faint dark circles around his eyes, and a wave of guilt washed over me.
In my condition, I had become a heavy burden for him, forcing him to constantly divide his time between me and his demanding work.

After we finished breakfast, I insisted on walking him to the door.
Standing in front of him, I rose slightly onto my toes and carefully straightened his tie.
He slipped an arm around my waist, bent his head, and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. Then he turned and walked away.
Lianne’s POV
After watching Ethan’s car disappear from sight, I turned back to the villa, planning to look for a pair of scissors so I could trim the flower branches on the terrace.
However, when I checked the living room and kitchen, I realized every sharp object in the house was gone. The scissors, fruit knives, even the letter opener had all been removed.
That wasn’t all. The sharp edges of every table and cabinet had been carefully covered with thick, soft padding.
I stood in the middle of the living room and ran my fingers along the heavy cushioning covering the furniture edges. A dull, suffocating weight settled over my chest.
How scared had Ethan been, to take such painstaking precautions?
This strict protection made me feel strangely warm inside, but at the same time, it pressed down on me with an unbearable heaviness.
As I stood there lost in thought, my phone suddenly vibrated. Melisa was calling.
“Lianne, how are you feeling today?” Her voice was as comforting and professional as ever.
“Much better. Thank you, Melisa,” I answered truthfully.
“That’s good. Ethan just messaged me again to ask about your condition.” She gave a soft laugh, though there was a hint of exhaustion in her voice. “He’s always worrying about you, asking me about every little detail concerning your health. Honestly, it’s a little overwhelming. I’ve never seen him care so deeply about anyone before.”
As I listened, I felt an odd sense of discomfort.
It was a subtle feeling, like I had suddenly allowed someone else to step into a private corner of my life.
I shook my head, thinking that perhaps being sick for so long had made me overly cynical and narrow-minded.
