Chapter 154:
Even with the comfort and privacy of first class, exhaustion still weighed on me. I leaned back and drifted in and out of sleep.
Without warning, a child sprinted down the aisle. At that exact moment, the plane jolted from sudden turbulence.
Caught off guard, I lost my balance and tilted toward the aisle.
“Careful!” Frank reacted immediately and pulled me into his arms.
Lianne’s POV:
My face slammed into Frank’s firm chest, and the steady thud of his heartbeat filled my ears.
His arm was clasped tightly around my shoulders, and that instinctively protective hold caught me completely unprepared.
“Are you alright?” he asked, dipping his head a little. His breath brushed my hair, carrying a hint of urgency.
I jolted, fully waking at the unfamiliar closeness of a man.

I hurriedly pulled away from him, straightened myself, and smoothed down my hair, slightly embarrassed. “I’m okay. Thank you.”
Frank drew his hand back and said softly, “Get some sleep.”
Just before we got off the plane, he called to me without warning, his voice noticeably more serious. “Lianne, there’s an event this evening. Would you come with me?”
I looked at him in puzzlement. “What event?”
“Ivy’s birthday party.”
I froze, overcome by a sense of absurd disbelief. “Ivy? Wasn’t she badly burned? Shouldn’t she still be in the hospital?”
Frank gave a cold, humorless laugh and lowered his voice. “It’s nowhere near that serious. She had it exaggerated on purpose. She’s completely fine now and busy getting ready for tonight.”
He met my eyes and suggested, “Come with me, Lianne. The invitation includes one guest. Don’t you want to see it with your own eyes and bring this to an end once and for all?”
When I stayed silent, he went on. “Ethan has poured an enormous amount into this party. He reserved the most private and prestigious estate in Norvynford. The gown, the cake, even every rose decorating the venue was shipped in from overseas.”
With each word, my heart sank further, as if I were dropping into an icy abyss with no end.
So the coldness and impatience he had shown me were only because all of his care had been reserved for Ivy. For her, he could spend without blinking, arrange every detail with care, and hand her anything she wanted.
And what about me? To him, I was probably just an unnecessary presence, something bothersome in the way.
The ache in my chest gradually went numb, leaving behind only a hard, settled determination.
I would go to the party.
I had to witness it myself, to see exactly how ridiculous and worthless those three years had been.
I had to see for myself how the man who once said he didn’t believe in fated mates would stand before everyone and choose someone else.
And I also knew that if I appeared there, Ivy would be furious beyond measure.
After a brief pause, I raised my eyes to Frank. “Fine, I’ll come with you.”
The moment we got off the plane, Frank brought me straight to get dressed and styled.
