Chapter 170:
Thinking about her leaving, or seeing her stand beside another man with that same gentle smile, left an empty feeling I couldn’t ignore.
“You’re just used to it,” Liam said with a sigh, trying to reason with me. “Three years is a long time. Your instincts are making you rely on her. Once the bond is gone and time passes, you’ll move on. You’ll realize Ivy is the one.”
I kept my eyes on the dark night outside and said nothing.
If it was only habit, then why did I feel the urge to tear that man apart when I saw her with him?
“Did Ivy agree to separate?” Liam asked again.
A frown formed as my expression turned cold. “She has no other choice.”
Lianne’s POV:
On the drive back, the neon outside flashed nonstop past the windows, its colors reflected sharply against the glass.
I stared at the window, but what I was really watching was Ethan’s reflection. His features were clean-cut, his brow line striking, and the slight prominence of his Adam’s apple gave him a distinctly masculine allure that was hard to ignore.

No matter how fractured our relationship had become, I had to admit that his looks and build were enough to make any she-wolf lose control.
“What are you thinking about?” As if he had noticed me looking, he turned his head, his eyes unnaturally bright in the dark.
I immediately looked away and shook my head. “Nothing. I’m just tired.”
“There’s a party tomorrow night. You’re coming with me,” he said in a tone that left no room for refusal.
I never liked those social events, and besides, what even were we to each other now?
“I’m not going.” I refused in a cold voice and turned back toward the window. “Do you even remember the last charity gala? You were talking and laughing with Ivy while I fell into the pool and nearly drowned.”
The inside of the car fell deathly quiet at once.
Ethan seemed stunned. After a pause, he said quietly, “I’m sorry. That day, after I got you out safely, something urgent happened on Ivy’s side, so I had no choice but to leave.”
My mind emptied for a second. Then I whipped around to look at him, my voice shaking. “What did you just say? You were the one who saved me?”
“Who else would it have been?” he said, frowning.
“I thought it was Frank who saved me,” I murmured, my emotions churning violently inside me.
That day, I had been half-conscious and confused. When I woke up and saw Frank beside my bed, I naturally assumed he was the one who had pulled me out.
So the one who had actually dragged me from that freezing water was Ethan, the same man who kept insisting on ending our mate bond.
“Now that you know, come with me tomorrow, alright?” he asked once more, his voice gentler than before.
I drew in a deep breath, forcing down the turmoil inside me, then shook my head. “I’d rather not. I’m not feeling well.”
