Chapter 942:
My heart immediately began pounding. A strange mixture of nervousness and anticipation took hold of me, and I had no idea what would happen next.
“You’re sleeping in my room tonight,” she said casually.
“Lianne, I…”
“Call Noah tomorrow and have him bring some of your clothes and other necessities over,” she cut in smoothly. “We’re together again, so you should keep some of your things here.”
Her composure made me even more uneasy. I stood and approached her, lowering my voice as I asked, “What exactly did Melisa say to you?”
Her gaze was fixed on me, unflinching. She didn’t try to dodge the matter. “She told me you two are going to finalize your mate bond. She claims she can heal your sickness. She said you can’t live without her.”
My chest constricted. “And you believed her?”
“Whether I believe her isn’t important.” Lianne dropped her gaze. “What matters is that she deliberately flaunted it in front of me, and I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t stand the thought of watching another woman take you away. So this time, I want to fight for you. I want to make her pay for humiliating me.”
She paused before meeting my eyes again, her expression sincere. “But there’s something else you need to understand. I’m fighting for you because I still love you. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t feel jealous, I wouldn’t care, and I wouldn’t mind who ended up beside you. Ethan, do you understand what I’m saying?”
I had never seen Lianne speak with such openness and determination. The quiet, restrained woman I had known before seemed almost unrecognizable compared to the person standing in front of me now.

For a moment, I even wondered if the poison inside my body was acting up again, creating some cruel illusion for me to see. I lifted my hand, wanting to touch her face and make sure she was really there, but stopped halfway.
“What is it?” she asked when she noticed my hesitation.
“I’m afraid you’re not real,” I admitted. “I’m scared this is nothing more than another hallucination caused by my illness.”
She went still for a moment. Then, without hesitation, she reached for my hand and gently pressed my palm against her cheek. “Can you feel me? I’m here. I’m real.”
The warmth of her skin beneath my fingertips made my heart jolt. I instinctively tried to pull my hand away, desperate to escape. I was terrified that she was only an illusion, that the moment I touched her, she would disappear before my eyes.
But Lianne held onto me and pulled me back. “Ethan, don’t even think about running. You’re staying here tonight.”
She wasn’t particularly strong, but the determination in her eyes was so absolute that I couldn’t bring myself to resist her.
When she led me into the bedroom, every shred of reason I’d been clinging to seemed to disappear.
In the soft darkness of the room, she showed a passion I had never seen from her before, as though she had decided to give herself completely, without leaving herself any way back.
