Chapter 519:
Of course I wanted to see my children immediately. But when I thought of Frank, guilt crept into my chest. He had been there through every milestone of their lives, helping raise them and loving them as though they were his own.
If I took them away now, wouldn’t that be unfair to him?
“Let’s give it a few more days,” I said quietly, lowering my eyes. “I want them to have some time to adjust first.”
Ethan clearly sensed my hesitation, yet he chose not to challenge it. Instead, he lifted my hand and brushed a gentle kiss across my fingertips. “Whatever makes you comfortable,” he said softly.
A strange heaviness settled over the room afterward, thick enough to make breathing feel difficult.
Suddenly, the door slammed open so violently that both of us jumped.
Jeremy stormed inside, looking more agitated than I’d ever seen him.
“Lianne!” he blurted out. “When is Tracy leaving? What city is she flying back to? Tell me!”

Immediately, my guard went up. I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why do you want to know?”
Nobody knew Jeremy better than I did. He changed girlfriends as often as other people changed clothes.
Tracy, however, was completely different. Beneath her fearless attitude and sharp tongue was someone genuinely sincere and kind-hearted. They didn’t belong in the same world.
“Jeremy,” I said firmly, my voice turning icy, “consider this a warning. Stay away from Tracy. She’s not one of the women you’re used to chasing. She doesn’t play games, and she isn’t interested in becoming your temporary amusement. If you’re looking for excitement, there are countless socialites in Thiynia who would gladly entertain you. So leave Tracy out of it.”
“I’m not playing with her!” Jeremy exploded, stomping his foot in frustration. His usually charming face was twisted with outrage.
“Oh, really?” I let out a skeptical laugh. “Then care to explain why you were hanging all over her last night? Jeremy, unless you’re prepared to be serious about her and take responsibility for her future, I won’t let you anywhere near Tracy.”
Noticing how worked up I was becoming, Ethan wrapped an arm around me and gently drew me against his side. “Jeremy,” he said evenly, though there was a warning in his voice, “don’t make things more difficult for Lianne.”
“I…” Jeremy opened his mouth, then shut it again. For once, the smooth-talking flirt seemed completely cornered. His expression darkened with equal parts frustration and annoyance.
After several seconds of struggling for words, he finally snapped, “She’s the one who made the first move. Last night, she got drunk and dragged me into her room! She’s the one who took advantage of me!”
The room fell silent.
I stared at him in utter disbelief. “What did you just say?”
Tracy was my closest friend.
If Jeremy was fabricating such a ridiculous story to protect his ego, I wasn’t going to forgive him, best friend of Ethan’s or not.
