Chapter 254:
Before I stepped out, Ethan clasped my hand hard, his eyes dark and intent as he said, “When we go in, stay with Grandpa. No matter who speaks to you or whatever happens outside, don’t react to any of it, alright?”
I gave a small nod, my eyes still wet with tears.
Lianne’s POV
The funeral hall was covered in white flowers, their mournful fragrance thick enough to make the air feel heavy and hard to breathe.
The moment I stepped inside, I saw Rola, her eyes swollen and flushed red.
She came to me immediately, gripped my hand tightly, and let out a tired breath. “Lianne, why did you come? Listen to me. See Harold once, and then go back and rest. In your condition, you should not be putting yourself through this.”
I shook my head without hesitation and clasped her cold hand in return. “Rola, I have to remain here. Not being able to say goodbye to Harold would be the greatest regret of my life. Now, the only thing I want is to stay with him through this last farewell.”
Several relatives came over one after another and tried to persuade me. Even Ethan, exhausted to the core, still found time to come to me, his brows tightly furrowed as he looked at me. But no matter what they said, I would not leave the coffin.
In the end, Ethan relented, draping his coat over my shoulders and instructing the servants to stay close and take proper care of me.

“Lianne.” Rola gently stroked the back of my hand, her voice choked with feeling. “When Harold was dying, you were still in his thoughts. He said he was sorry he had not stood up for you when the rumors were at their worst, and for all the suffering you had to endure.”
My eyes filled with tears, and a sharp ache rose in my nose. “I never blamed him, not for a single moment. In those circumstances, I was already lucky that he protected me quietly behind the scenes. Clearing my name was Ethan’s responsibility, and thankfully… he did not let Harold down.”
As soon as I said it, my eyes drifted instinctively toward Ethan, who was standing some distance away, speaking with someone.
He seemed to sense my gaze and lifted his eyes toward me, his expression complicated and impossible to read.
Not long after, Harold’s body was escorted to the Valhalla.
It was the most sacred resting ground of the Thorn Pack, a place where only the bravest warriors and former Alphas were buried.
Werewolves believed that after death, the soul would pass through the Valhalla before finally returning to the embrace of the Moon Goddess. When I looked at Harold’s peaceful face, as if he were only sleeping, my tears spilled over again.
The funeral ceremony was solemn and grand.
Aside from the Thorn Pack’s own people, many Alphas from neighboring packs came as well to pay their respects.
While he was alive, Harold had given himself to maintaining peace among the packs, often protecting the weaker tribes whenever conflict broke out. His death plunged the entire werewolf world into deep mourning.
