Chapter 807:
She was absolutely certain I would eventually surrender, because Lianne’s life outweighed everything else. That confidence only fueled the rage burning inside me.
“One month.” She slowly lifted a finger, trembling slightly in the freezing breeze. “She’ll spend the next month feeling perfectly healthy. But don’t forget this, Ethan. Every attack from the poison destroys another part of her nervous system, permanently. The next episode won’t end with her simply losing consciousness.”
The warning was unmistakable. She wasn’t merely threatening me. She was making it clear that if I wanted Lianne to survive, I would have to make her the next Luna.
My fists tightened until the blood drained from my knuckles.
As long as the antidote remained in Melisa’s possession, every advantage belonged to her. I had no way to strike back. All I could do was swallow my anger and give in.
Ethan’s POV
By the time I arrived back at the villa, the night had grown deep. The icy air still clung to my clothes, while the burden I’d carried all day weighed heavily on me.

I assumed Lianne, after everything she’d endured, would already be asleep. Instead, a dim lamp in the living room still glowed softly, casting a gentle light across the room.
She was curled into the corner of the large sofa, her petite frame tucked beneath a blanket. The instant she heard the front door open, she lifted her head and hurried toward me without even slipping on her shoes.
“Why haven’t you gone to bed yet?” Warmth spread through my chest. The exhaustion and bitterness I’d carried all day dissolved the moment I laid eyes on her.
Before she could reach me, I stepped forward and swept her into my arms. Frowning slightly, I looked down at her bare feet. “You forgot your shoes again. The floor’s freezing. You never remember to look after yourself.”
“I wanted to wait until you came home.” She looped her arms around my neck and rested her face against my shoulder, her voice carrying a teasing smile. “You’ve become so bossy lately. Always telling me what to do. Is it because… you don’t like me waiting up for you anymore?”
Her warm breath brushed against my neck, carrying the comforting scent that always managed to calm me.
I hugged her tighter, my voice rough but gentle. “Don’t make things up. I just don’t want you catching a cold.”
Carrying her upstairs, I laid her carefully on the bed. I had planned to shower first, hoping to wash away both the night’s cold and the lingering trace of Melisa’s perfume.
But after everything that had happened over the past few days, holding Lianne so close stirred emotions I could barely contain.
She must have sensed the turmoil inside me. Leaning closer, she lightly traced my jaw with her fingertips, quiet dependence shimmering in her eyes.
“Ethan… can we?” she murmured softly.
I knew exactly what she was asking.
Every instinct urged me to pull her into my arms, to reassure myself that she was truly beside me and hadn’t slipped away. But reason quickly extinguished those desires.
