Chapter 42:
She had been moaning softly under me, her fingers digging into my back, her eyes blurred by overwhelming pleasure.
I couldn’t hold my thoughts steady any longer.
Lianne’s POV:
After Ethan headed off to shower, I drifted off almost at once, worn out from the long day and still weak all over.
Somewhere between sleep and waking, I was jolted by the sound of harsh, urgent breathing right beside my ear.
I jerked awake and, through the faint darkness, found Ethan leaning over me.
His eyes flickered in the dark, like he was barely holding himself back from something.

“Ethan?” I whispered.
He said nothing, only stared at me with a rigid look, his hot breath fanning across my face.
Without thinking, I lifted my hand to feel his forehead, but the second my fingers touched his skin, the heat was so fierce that I snatched my hand back.
“Do you have a fever?” I asked uneasily, pushing myself up and about to switch on the light.
But before I could, his big, callused hand caught my wrist and pinned it to his burning cheek.
“There’s something wrong with the soup.” His voice came out rough and strained, every word dragged up from deep in his throat.
I understood right away. It was Rola.
The soup had definitely been tampered with, something in it strong enough to throw a werewolf into heat.
Rola had really gone this far for us.
Ethan was hanging by a thread.
He yanked me into his arms so hard it felt like he wanted to pull me straight into himself.
His scorching lips came down on me out of nowhere, his mouth at my neck rough and claiming.
A faint moan slipped out of me before I could stop it.
His hand moved over my bare back, pulling one helpless shiver after another from me.
His kisses moved lower along my neck, pausing at my collarbone as he bit and sucked at my skin, leaving behind bright, glaring marks. I could feel every inch of him drawn tight, strung up by pure desire.
I tried to push him back, but the mate bond between us made my body answer him no matter how much I fought it.
When I felt him getting more and more out of hand, my whole body tightened, and my mind flew at once to the baby inside me.
“Ethan… be gentle…” I shut my eyes and scraped together the little courage I had, my voice shaking as I begged against his ear. “Please… be gentle.”
He went still.
For a second, I thought the last of his self-control would snap because I had stopped fighting him.
But instead, he stayed like that for a few moments, then suddenly pulled away and climbed off the bed.
“Damn it!” he cursed, without even looking at me as he stumbled into the bathroom.
A moment later, I heard water running inside.
I was left alone on the bed, his warmth still clinging to my skin, but my chest felt heavier and heavier.
It was humiliating.
