Chapter 236:
“Once the baby arrives, you can see him as often as you like,” I whispered, forcing the ache inside me to subside.
“See him as often?” Ethan’s head snapped up, disbelief and anger flickering across his features. “Lianne, are you still thinking of leaving me? Where do you plan to take our child? To Frank? Or are you thinking of finding him a stepfather?”
“What nonsense is this?” I snapped, trembling with frustration at his unreasonable words. “I can raise the child myself. If you’re so worried, I can leave him with you. I’ll go on my own!”
“You’d rather give up the child than stay with me?” Ethan’s face drained of color. His eyes searched mine, voice quivering, raw and fractured. “Do you hate me that much?”
Lianne’s POV
“Yes! I hate you!” I bit the words out, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. “I hate your conceit, your indecision, and the way you grind my dignity into the dirt. We do not have to stay bound to each other forever and bleed ourselves dry over a child neither of us ever meant to have.”
“But I love you!” Ethan roared without warning, gripping my shoulders hard, desperation flooding his face. “Lianne, I was wrong! I do not want this to be over. I want you. I want our child. I want us.”
I looked at him and gave a low, scornful laugh. “Love me? Ethan, when did that suddenly begin? Was it when you left me on the side of the road for Ivy? Or when you forced me to apologize to her? Or… was it only after you found out I was pregnant?”
Ethan parted his lips, yet nothing came out. He stood there, mute and cornered.

“Stop lying to yourself,” I said sharply, knocking his hands off me, my heart gone cold for good. “What you feel has never been love. It has always been obligation and remorse. I do not want either of them dressed up as love.”
“I’ll prove it…” he said under his breath, his eyes blazing with a dark, near-manic fixation.
But I did not have even a shred of faith left in him.
Then, all at once, a violent pounding slammed against the villa gate, shredding the stillness of the night with brutal urgency.
Right after that came shrill, frantic screams slicing through the windows. “Ethan! Come out! Ethan! You cannot do this to me! Come see me!”
My whole body jolted at that voice, it was Ivy. Wasn’t she meant to be under watch at the hospital? How had she gotten here?
The moment Ethan realized it was her, his face turned grim.
“I arranged for her to be sent abroad. I do not know how she ended up here.” He drew in a long breath, forced himself calm, set his hands on my shoulders, and eased me back under the covers. “Lianne, stay here. Do not come out of this room. I will handle it.”
“No, I am going with you.” I flung the blanket away, my eyes set with firm resolve.
