Chapter 521:
“Lianne…” Tracy’s voice sounded rough and strained. “I’m sorry. I knew that if I tried to say goodbye in person, I would end up crying my eyes out. That’s why I left without telling you. Anyway, we’ll see each other again once you’re back home. Take care of yourself and focus on getting better. Don’t worry about me.”
From the corner of my eye, I noticed Jeremy straining to listen to every word. His expression grew darker with each passing second. In the end, I swallowed all the questions on the tip of my tongue.
Since Tracy hadn’t mentioned what happened the previous night, it was obvious she wanted to leave it behind and pretend it had never happened. There was no reason for me to expose it in front of Jeremy and make things even more awkward for her.
“Okay,” I said finally. “Give me a call when you land.”

After ending the call, I turned to Jeremy. “She’s already gone through security. Jeremy, it’s clear she wants to put all of this behind her. You should let it go and move on.”
“Let it go? Why should I?” Jeremy exploded instantly. “She was the one who came after me first. She slept with me, then disappeared like I meant nothing. No way. I’m going to the airport right now. She owes me an explanation.”
“What exactly are you planning to ask her?” I shot back, trying to stop him. My voice turned stern. “Jeremy, you don’t even know what kind of relationship you want with her. If you run after her now, what can you offer her besides more confusion and disruption to her life?”
My words seemed to strike a nerve. Jeremy halted. His lips parted, but no words came out. Conflict and uncertainty flickered across his face.
Then, without saying another word, he turned and stormed out of the hospital room.
“Jeremy!” I called after him, but he never looked back.
I tried calling Tracy again, but this time her phone was switched off.
I let out a long, heavy sigh and sank back into my seat. My thoughts were an absolute mess.
Out of all people, why did these two have to become involved with each other? One was my closest friend, and the other was Ethan’s.
Jeremy’s love life had always been chaotic. Tracy only appeared fearless and carefree. Deep down, she carried more insecurities than anyone realized. Someone like Jeremy was exactly the kind of person she wouldn’t know how to handle.
While I was drowning in my thoughts, Ethan, who had stayed silent the entire time, suddenly reached over and took my hand.
“Lianne,” he said softly, drawing my attention back to him. “You’re not going to blame me for Jeremy’s stupidity, are you?”
The question caught me by surprise. The Alpha of the Thorn Pack was usually calm and confident. But now there was a trace of uncertainty in his eyes, as though he genuinely feared I might hold Jeremy’s actions against him.
The irritation lingering inside me softened instantly, replaced by a warm ache I couldn’t quite describe.
“I’m not that unreasonable,” I replied with a helpless sigh. “I’m not going to punish you for Jeremy’s actions.”
The moment Ethan heard that, the tension in his shoulders visibly eased. “Good,” he said.
