Chapter 960:
I kept my expression indifferent. “I’m tired. I want to rest.”
Not wanting to disturb me, she rose from her chair. “Okay. Get some rest. I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
I didn’t answer. I just closed my eyes.
A moment later, she turned toward the door.
The door swung open.
A figure stood in the doorway.
Melisa went still. “Lianne? What are you doing here?”
I slowly opened my eyes and looked toward the doorway.
Lianne stood there in a simple white shirt, an insulated food bag hanging from one hand. Her expression was remarkably calm as her gaze slipped past Melisa and settled directly on me.
Inside, I was completely at ease.

The confrontation we’d carefully staged was finally underway.
Lianne’s POV:
The moment I encountered Melisa at the hospital, my heart tightened, but I immediately slipped into character.
Taking a deep breath, I summoned the kind of temper Tracy was so good at displaying, then pointed straight at Melisa. “Aha! I knew I’d find you here! You two shameless cheaters are conspiring to keep the assets that belong to me! And now you even have the nerve to sit here acting all cozy?”
My sudden outburst caught Melisa completely off guard. She stumbled back and threw up a hand to block me from pushing any further into the room. “Lianne, calm down! Ethan’s not feeling well. Don’t cause a scene here!”
“He’s not feeling well?” I sneered, raising my voice. “He’s pretending to be sick just to avoid giving me my share of the assets, isn’t he? Well, it’s not going to work! I gave birth to his two children. I have every right to a portion of his fortune!”
A frown creased Melisa’s forehead, her tone laced with irritation and a hint of desperation. “Lianne, have some consideration for Ethan. He’s in no condition for this. Whatever you want to say, say it out in the hallway. Just don’t cause a commotion here.”
“Have some consideration?” I laughed bitterly. “Why should I care how he feels? He’s never once considered mine. Do you have any idea what it’s like raising two kids by myself? And what does he do? He hooks up with you and then tries to short me on child support!”
Melisa’s expression darkened, but she maintained her composure and refused to lash out. She drew a deep breath, took hold of my arm, and steered me out into the corridor.
Once we were in the hallway, she dropped her voice. “Lianne, let’s talk this out. Tell me what you want. I’m open to negotiating a settlement.”
I gave her a contemptuous look. “Negotiate? And who exactly do you think you are? You’re nothing but the mistress. What gives you the right to negotiate with me? We only just broke up, and you’re already rushing to take my place?”
