Chapter 338:
I froze for a second, the tight knot in my chest loosening slightly. Blurry memories slowly resurfaced. Before passing out in the restroom last night, I had indeed been on the phone with him.
Even though I still couldn’t understand how he had managed to find me, at least I hadn’t fallen into Mark and his group’s hands.
But the moment that thought surfaced, another wave of panic crashed over me. Who had changed my clothes?
“That driver… did he bring me here by himself? Was there another woman with him?” I asked quickly, unable to hide the anxiety in my voice.
The staff member gave a slight shake of her head. “I didn’t see anyone else. He carried you upstairs with great care and seemed genuinely worried about you. And…” She paused, her cheeks flushing slightly. “He was unbelievably good-looking. He also had a very charming presence.”
My confusion only deepened. Good-looking? Charming? From what I remembered, the driver merely had a pleasant voice. As for his appearance, he looked like an ordinary middle-aged man. Why would the staff describe him like that?
Suppressing my doubts for the moment, I borrowed a charger and powered on my phone. As soon as the screen lit up, countless missed calls and messages appeared, mostly from Oscar and Brian.

I didn’t have the energy to deal with any of that. Instead, I immediately called the driver.
The call connected almost instantly, though silence lingered on the other end for a brief moment.
“Were you the one who picked me up last night?” I asked cautiously, my voice carrying traces of embarrassment and unease.
“Yes.” His deep, composed voice remained as calm as ever, impossible to read.
“Then… my clothes…” I hesitated, biting my lip before forcing myself to continue.
“I asked a female friend to help change them for you,” he answered evenly. “You threw up on yourself several times last night. Sleeping in those clothes would have been uncomfortable.”
The moment I heard the words “female friend,” the tension crushing my chest finally eased. I let out a long breath of relief, feeling as though a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
I hurriedly thanked him, promising I would settle the expenses once I was free, before ending the call.
Then I tried calling Bella, but no one answered.
I headed into the bathroom and turned on the shower, letting the warm water pour over my exhausted body, hoping it would soothe the lingering soreness. Steam slowly filled the room as I closed my eyes, but no matter how hard I tried, Ethan’s face refused to leave my thoughts.
The sensation of being wrapped tightly in his arms had felt unbearably real, making my heart stutter.
I shook my head hard, forcing myself to stop thinking about him. My relationship with him had ended three years ago. I needed to stop clinging to the past.
By now, he was probably living among the upper class somewhere in the world, untouchable and successful, while I was nothing more than a struggling single mother barely managing to get by.
