Chapter 174:
I checked the time, pushed myself up from the couch, and stood. “It’s late. You all keep going. I’m leaving first.”
“I’ll walk you out!” Nancy followed at once.
The elevator held only the two of us.
Inside that cramped space, the strange heat in my body intensified at once. My sight started to blur, and Nancy’s figure in front of me began to overlap with Lianne’s outline.
She brazenly moved closer, her hand sliding over my chest. “Ethan, you don’t look well. Do you want me to get you a room so you can rest?”
“Get out.” I ground the two words out through clenched teeth.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and several young people came in noisily, cutting off whatever she had been about to do.
I used the chance to step out. The cold air outside hit me head-on and cleared my mind a little.

But even at the exit, Nancy still refused to give up.
She let out a soft cry and tipped toward me as if she were about to fall into my arms, one hand clutching tightly at my sleeve.
“Ah, I think I twisted my ankle. Ethan, can you take me to the hospital?”
Her perfume now felt like toxic fog, so sickening it made me want to vomit.
I flung her hand off with force, hard enough to send her stumbling back several steps.
I could already tell something was seriously wrong with my body. That heat was racing through my veins and spreading into every limb, while the wolf inside me howled in agitation.
“Nancy, put away your filthy little schemes.” I fixed her with a murderous stare, my eyes dark with menace. “Follow me again, and you won’t just lose your job at Voss Group. I’ll make sure you disappear from this entire industry. Now get lost!”
The hostility in my eyes frightened Nancy so badly that her face turned white, and she finally spun around and ran off in disarray.
Barely holding on against the discomfort threatening to burn away the last of my reason, I braced myself against a lamppost by the road and panted heavily.
Everything before my eyes was spinning. I could even feel my heart pounding madly against my ribs.
Just as I was on the verge of collapsing, a familiar black car slowly pulled up across the street and flashed its headlights twice.
It was Lianne.
At that instant, the tension wound through my nerves finally eased a little.
She had come. My mate, the only cure I had.
Lianne’s POV:
Ethan slid into the passenger seat, bringing with him a dense mix of alcohol and a cloying perfume that made me feel sick.
He loosened his tie and turned toward me. “Have you been waiting long? Why didn’t you call me?”
