Chapter 155:
In the mirror, I saw myself in a dark sapphire velvet gown. It made my skin look even paler and finer, while my eyes were dim and empty of feeling.
By the time we reached the venue, it was already fully dark.
The instant I pushed open the weighty carved doors, I stopped dead.
This was far beyond a simple birthday celebration. It resembled an extravagant castle lifted straight from a storybook.

An enormous crystal chandelier hung from the soaring ceiling, spilling soft, shifting light everywhere. The air was saturated with the fragrance of costly roses. Every carved banister and every length of carpet had been arranged with painstaking care.
Anyone with eyes could tell, this was a place Ethan had prepared for Ivy.
Before I came, I had braced myself again and again. I told myself he was no longer mine. I told myself the Rejection had already been signed.
But the moment I saw it in person, the pain hit so hard I could barely remain standing.
That kind of singular devotion, that reckless, wholehearted romance, had never once belonged to me. It had always been Ivy’s.
I had taken care of him for three years.
When he was disabled and unstable, I sat vigil at his bedside through countless sleepless nights.
When he took back power and stood at the top with cold, unquestioned authority, I withdrew into the background and handled everything for him from the shadows.
I waited for three years. I never received a Luna ceremony. I never had the moment when he would hold my hand and acknowledge my place before the pack. In the end, all I was given was a cold Rejection that severed our mate bond.
Lianne’s POV:
Soft piano music floated through the hall.
Following the sound, I saw Ethan in the center of the hall, dressed flawlessly and seated at a white grand piano.
His head was slightly lowered, his bangs shadowing the eyes that were usually so cold and detached. His fingers moved smoothly and elegantly across the black-and-white keys.
I had never seen Ethan like this before.
I never knew he could play the piano. So it wasn’t that he lacked romance. He had simply never given it to me.
He was my fated mate, yet all the tenderness he had built up over the years was being poured out on Ivy without restraint.
“Oh my, this is so moving,” a woman beside me murmured.
A moment later, Ivy appeared.
She was dressed in a pink ball gown with elaborate layered detailing, and the hem was covered in tiny diamonds that flashed sharply beneath the lights. She stood in the middle of the hall, receiving everyone’s attention. The smile on her face looked pleased, yet it didn’t feel genuine.
“Thank you all for coming to my birthday party,” Ivy said in a soft, timid voice, looking affectionately toward Ethan at the piano. “And a special thank-you to Ethan. This was the song that marked the beginning of our relationship. He promised that on the most important day, he would play it for me. Tonight, my first dance belongs only to him.”
