Chapter 959:
“Ethan, how did the poison suddenly become this severe?” She sat beside me and reached toward my arm. I subtly shifted away before her hand could touch me.
She didn’t seem offended. Instead, she reached into her bag and produced a small bottle. “I prepared a new formula. Take this. It should help reduce the symptoms.”
My eyes settled on the bottle, but I made no attempt to accept it.
I glanced toward Noah. He immediately understood what I wanted. He stepped forward, took the bottle from Melisa, and spoke with restrained courtesy. “Ms. Davis, the doctors need to examine the medication before Alpha takes anything. Considering his current condition, we can’t take unnecessary chances.”

Melisa went quiet. A fleeting disappointment appeared in her eyes, though she quickly concealed it. She didn’t argue as Noah carried the bottle out of the room and quietly shut the door behind him.
Once we were alone, she looked at me again. There was a trace of hurt in her voice. “Ethan, you still don’t trust me.”
I didn’t bother pretending otherwise. Drawing on everything that had happened between us, I answered weakly but clearly, “You have a talent for poison. It’s only natural that I’d be cautious around you. This isn’t personal. It’s self-preservation.”
She paused. Then, to my surprise, she smiled gently. “That’s fine. I understand. Once we’re bonded and you’ve had more time to get to know me, you’ll understand how I truly feel about you. You’ll realize that you’re different from everyone else to me.”
Ethan’s POV:
I remained silent, giving Melisa no response.
I kept up the appearance of complete exhaustion, occasionally coughing weakly, my brows drawn tightly together as though even speaking required more energy than I could spare. The act was convincing enough that Melisa failed to detect anything amiss. After sitting with me for a while, she spoke again, a note of cautious probing creeping into her voice. “Ethan, I heard Lianne recently asked you for some of your assets. A property downtown?”
My brows furrowed as I deliberately let irritation color my voice. “Did she come to you?”
“No.” She shook her head, her expression sympathetic. “I only heard about it. How dare she even ask? You two have already broken up, yet she still refuses to leave you alone.”
I sighed, feigning exasperation. “Let’s not talk about her.”
A flicker of satisfaction crossed her eyes, though she quickly masked it behind a gentle, concerned expression. “Ethan, if she’s bothering you, I can deal with her for you. I can pay her to get lost and never come back to the Thorn Pack. That way, she’ll stop hounding you, and you’ll get some much-needed peace.”
I caught on to her little game immediately.
This wasn’t about helping me at all. She wanted Lianne gone for good, eliminating any possibility that the two of us might reconcile.
Still, I played along, letting my voice carry a weary note of annoyance. “Go talk to her if you want. I don’t have the energy to deal with her anymore.”
Her eyes lit up at once. “Fine. I’ll speak with her. Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
