Chapter 459:
In the end, he stopped trying to persuade me. Instead, he ordered his men to pitch a temporary tent in a clearing near the edge of the Darkroot Forest, struggling against the relentless wind and rain to get it done.
By the time he carried me inside, the fever had already consumed me. My body burned like fire, and my consciousness drifted in and out.
Frank found a set of dry clothes, then respectfully turned away while the healer accompanying us helped me out of my soaked, torn garments.
The moment the fabric brushed against my injuries, a sharp sting shot through my body, drawing a low groan from my lips.
I could feel the healer gently cleaning me. A warm towel moved across my trembling back. Under the lantern’s glow, the wounds poisoned by silver looked gruesome, almost horrifying.

The healer forced fever medicine down my throat. Its bitter taste spread across my tongue and lingered long afterward.
Outside, the storm showed no sign of stopping. Rain hammered endlessly against the thin canvas roof overhead.
I lay on the narrow cot, burning with fever as my mind drifted helplessly between dreams and reality.
In my dream, Ethan stood upon the altar. Blood flowed endlessly from the wound in his chest. A thick mist surrounded him. Through the fog, he looked at me with eyes full of determination and farewell. A final goodbye.
“Ethan… don’t leave…” I cried as I jerked awake.
Cold sweat soaked the clean clothes I had only recently changed into.
Outside the tent, Frank sat beside a fire. The faint orange glow illuminated his figure as he smoked cigarette after cigarette in silence.
The endless night crawled forward like a slow torture. Finally, the first rays of dawn pierced through the fog and spread across the muddy ground.
Bracing myself, I pushed aside the tent flap and stepped outside.
The morning air smelled of wet earth. The cold was sharp enough to clear the mind.
At that moment, a broad-shouldered warrior emerged from the depths of the Darkroot Forest.
The instant I saw him, hope flickered to life inside my chest.
I opened my mouth to ask about Ethan, but my throat was so dry and damaged that no sound came out. My lips moved uselessly, like a fish struggling for air.
“How is Ethan?” Frank immediately stepped forward and asked on my behalf.
The warrior stopped. His cold eyes briefly swept over my exhausted appearance before settling on Frank.
When he finally spoke, his voice was emotionless. Yet every word struck like a hammer against my fragile hope.
“The Alpha’s injuries are beyond saving. The silver poison has already spread to his heart valves. The witches have exhausted every prayer, every spell, and every herb at their disposal. Nothing can save him now.”
Lianne’s POV:
My mind went completely blank, as though lightning had split the world apart around me. Every ounce of strength drained from my body, and I crumpled against the side of the tent.
“What did you just say? What do you mean there’s no way to save him?” Frank’s voice sliced through the silence as he demanded an answer from the warrior.
