Chapter 182:
Ethan fell silent for a moment, then answered evenly, “That’s already in the past. There’s no point dwelling on it. All you need to know is that right now, I’m with you.”
“But I want to know.” I met his eyes without backing down. “I want to know what it is you’ve been hiding from me.”
When he saw the disappointment on my face, he rose from his seat and came over to my side, gently running a hand through my hair. “After Ivy left, she went through some very terrible things. She was hurt emotionally, so I can’t be too hard on her. But that doesn’t mean I’ll let her take your place. Do you understand?”
He still didn’t explain the details, but the warmth of his hand carried a quiet kind of reassurance.
“Alright, stop wasting your thoughts on people who don’t matter,” he murmured suddenly beside my ear. “Why don’t you focus on feeling my charm instead?”

Before I could react, he scooped me up in his arms and headed upstairs in long strides.
Lianne’s POV:
“Ethan!” I exclaimed, tapping his shoulder twice in protest. “We just ate, and the staff are still downstairs. What if they walk in on us?”
“Moving around a little after dinner is good for you,” he said with a grin, then cut off anything else I wanted to say with a slow kiss that left me no room to argue.
That evening, right before our trip, the master bedroom glowed under soft lighting, making everything feel warm and quiet.
We were both in the middle of packing. I stayed in the walk-in closet, crouched down as I folded his clothes and placed them neatly into the suitcase.
“Ethan, do you need anything else?” I asked, tilting my head up to look at him.
He stood by the closet with a glass of red wine, slowly turning it in his hand while his eyes moved over me without holding back.
For the past few nights, he had stayed close to me like this. Being around him that way almost made me forget how distant we had been before.
“That’s enough,” he replied, setting the glass aside as he stepped closer and crouched behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “If we’re missing anything, we can just get it there.”
His breathing grew uneven as his lips brushed lightly against the back of my neck.
I caught his hands before they could wander further and held them in place. “We’ve got an early flight tomorrow. It’s going to be a long day, so we should get some rest tonight.”
“Just this once, I swear,” he murmured, pressing closer to my neck, his voice low and coaxing.
“You always say that.”
Before I could finish, he shifted his weight and pulled me down against the carpet, leaving me no chance to protest.
Morning came, and I ended up sleeping far later than usual, not opening my eyes until nine.
The house felt still and quiet. Ethan had already left for a string of urgent meetings and was probably busy at the company.
