Chapter 213:
But now, when I looked at her, all I could see was Lianne walking away with that emptiness in her eyes.
I abruptly pulled my arm free. “Ivy, you never should have come here. I already told you my grandfather can’t take any shock. You know very well he doesn’t want to see you, so why would you appear in front of him?”
“I only wanted him to accept me…” Ivy’s crying turned even more pitiful. “Ethan, you never used to treat me this way. You promised you would make me your mate—”
“Enough.” I cut her off and turned a severe look on the guards beside me. “Take Ivy back to her room. She is not to leave it without my permission. Keep watch on her.”
“Ethan! Why are you doing this to me?” Ivy cried out in disbelief, her sharp voice ringing through the empty corridor.
I paid no attention to her screams and walked away without looking back.
As I left her tear-streaked face behind, I felt no stir of pity, only irritation that she was still creating trouble at a moment like this.
I made my way straight to my grandfather’s hospital room, where my grandmother was standing outside the door.

“Where’s Lianne?” I asked at once, my eyes moving past my grandmother and into the room, but Lianne was nowhere in sight.
Rola gave a cold snort and blocked my line of sight, her tone edged with frost. “So you finally remembered to look for her? I thought that shameless mistress was the only one you could see.”
“Grandma, I’m not in the mood for this right now.” I forced down the unrest churning inside me. “Where did Lianne go?”
“She left,” Rola answered coldly, then shifted her gaze as her tone changed. “Ethan, tell me something. Are you truly not planning to end things with Lianne?”
“I won’t end things with her,” I answered almost without thinking.
Rola narrowed her eyes and pressed further. “Not ending it? Are you only saying that for your grandfather’s sake, or is it because you can’t bear to leave her?”
I turned away from her probing stare and answered with forced rigidity, “Grandpa can’t bear any shock right now. We’ll discuss breaking the mate bond another time.”
“Another time?” Rola stamped her cane in frustration and pointed at me furiously. “You complete fool! What exactly do you think Lianne is? Someone you can summon when it suits you and cast aside when it doesn’t? You keep Ivy hanging there while refusing to set Lianne free. Do you have any idea how cruel that is to both of them?”
“There’s nothing between Ivy and me,” I said, frowning. “I’ve never done anything to betray Lianne. I was only taking care of Ivy. After all, back then—”
