Chapter 64:
“I’m saying July was when Ethan and I first met.” Ivy bent close to my ear, her breath warm while her voice stayed glacial. “Every year around that time, he throws all his work aside just to be with me. We spend those days tangled up together in a seaside villa. He leans into my ear and tells me exactly how much he despises you. Every trace of kindness he has shown you over these last three years was only because of your place as his mate. The nicer he acts toward you in public, the more wildly he claims me in bed.”
My mind emptied out, and my whole body locked in shock.
July…
Every July, he really did leave on business trips.
I remembered packing his suitcase with care, reminding him to look after himself, even sending him late-night messages full of longing.
His replies always came late, and his words were always distant.
It turned out he had been with her.
“Do you want to hear something even crueler?” Ivy asked, satisfaction flickering in her eyes as she watched me falter. “Do you know why he chose that exact day to mark you?”
It felt as if I had been dropped into a freezing cellar, my teeth chattering involuntarily.
Marking one’s mate was the holiest ritual among wolves. I had always believed it meant he was finally beginning to accept me.
“That day, I made him angry. I brought up my ex, and he lost his mind with jealousy. To punish me, and to prove that he could have any woman he wanted whenever he wanted, he marked you on impulse.”

Ivy lifted one slender finger and lightly traced it along the side of my neck.
“Lianne, the mark you treasured so proudly was nothing more than a weapon he used to get back at me. For these past three years, you’ve only ever been a joke.”
Lianne’s POV:
Seeing the smug victory shining across Ivy’s face, I suddenly found myself laughing.
Ivy’s expression stiffened at once. She frowned, and a trace of uneasiness flickered through her eyes. “What’s so funny?”
I schooled my amusement and raised my eyes to hers. “I’m laughing at how pitiful you are. You really came all the way here just to say this? You want me to leave Ethan, huh? How tragic. As long as Ethan and I are still bound, you’ll never be anything more than a mistress, someone who can never stand openly in the light, not by pack law. Even if our bond is broken someday, you’ll never wash away the stain of being the one who destroyed a home. Don’t push me again. Otherwise, I have more than enough ways to make sure you never set foot in the entertainment world again.”
Ivy was left speechless, the mask of innocence she wore finally splintering under the crush of her fury, her face contorting into something downright hideous.
A streak of naked hatred flashed through her eyes before she abruptly lifted her hand and slashed it toward my face, the motion cutting sharply through the air.
I let out a cold scoff. Before her palm could land, I seized her wrist cleanly.
I might have lost my wolf and no longer carried that fearsome burst of power, but I had once stood at the very top of the Pack Academy as its strongest fighter. The combat instincts and muscle memory etched into my body were still more than enough to handle a woman who knew nothing beyond putting on an act.
