Chapter 74:
Looking at him there, still dressed, still wearing his shoes and socks, I couldn’t make myself be heartless in the end.
I crouched down and carefully took off his leather shoes, then struggled to drag the duvet over him. By the time I was done, my back felt ready to snap.
I straightened, about to head for the guest room, when all at once, a scorching hand clamped hard around my wrist.
Ethan’s eyes stayed closed, but his brow was tightly drawn, as though he were caught in a miserable dream. His lips shifted, broken murmurs slipping from deep in his throat.
Thinking he was uncomfortable, I bent down and leaned closer to hear him.

“Baby… don’t go…”
The words burst in my ears like thunder.
Baby…
I went still. It felt as though my heart had stopped on the spot.
In three years of marriage, he had called me “Lianne,” but never “baby.” That intimate, cloyingly sweet word, who else could it be meant for? The answer was plain enough. Even in his sleep, he was pleading with Ivy not to leave him.
Looking at that handsome face, so beautiful and so cruel, I suddenly felt sick over the kiss from earlier. Revulsion twisted inside me. Anger and a bitter laugh rose together in my chest, but the tears came first, spilling out of my eyes before I could stop them.
With one sharp jerk, I tore my wrist from his hand. Without looking back, I fled the bedroom.
Ethan’s POV
I forced my eyes open, and a sharp pain split through my head.
I was lying in Lianne’s room.
I had been drunk. I remembered losing control and pulling her into a kiss. I remembered the way her breathing turned uneven.
Now the space beside me felt cold. Lianne was already gone.
I pressed my fingers against my temples and pushed myself up. My hand reached for the phone on the nightstand out of habit, but there was nothing there.
After searching the bed and finding nothing, I grabbed a robe and went downstairs.
My Rolls-Royce was still parked in the garage, quiet and untouched. My phone wasn’t inside.
I turned to leave, but a faint glow caught my attention from a shelf in the corner.
It was Lianne’s phone.
The moment I picked it up, it started vibrating. The screen lit up with an incoming call. Bella Saunders, her assistant.
I picked up.
“Lianne! Check the trending topics right now! It’s a mess! The paparazzi are out of control. You need to—”
“It’s me,” I said, cutting her off.
The line went silent at once. I could almost hear her freeze on the other end. After a moment, her voice came back, shaky.
“Alpha? I didn’t know it was you. Um… the trending list… you and Lianne were photographed together. It’s blowing up online.”
I ended the call and stared down at the phone in my hand.
Without thinking, I entered my own birthday.
The screen unlocked.
Something hit me hard in the chest, like a sudden blow.
